Description: Alfred is a cafe with local, sustainably produced and seasonal food. We welcome the Nobel Peace Center visitors, passers-by, tourists and neighbors alike to an informal and relaxed atmosphere inside and in our outdoor patio. Our Finnish Head Chef Joni Leskinen has composed a menu combining craftsmanship and carefully selected local produce. Swedish Mattias Åstrand is our new chef in Alfred. He shares Joni’s love of the season based Nordic kitchen, and with an extra thought to both produce and guests, the dishes they create are both surprising and tasty.

“I was expecting a tourist trap but was surprised.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

We stopped at Alfred's just between boat rides being hungry and not wanting to walk anymore. I was expecting it to be a tourist trap seeing the location right next to all the boat rides. We sat outside and watched the people and assumed if the food was good - it would be a bonus. The food was great. My other half and I shared the Spanish style Salmon and the chili mussels. Both were great, super fresh and well worth the money. The waitress was good also plus you got the great view for boat and people watching.

“Lovely place to wait for the ferry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We just stopped off here while waiting for the ferry to Nesodden. We ordered two glasses of wine and some nuts - our traditional early-evening snack while in Oslo - and were delighted by the waiter's friendly invitation to try a couple of different wines, and the huge bowl of nuts roasted in soy sauce....

It was so nice to sit outside, relax and wait for the ferry, watching all the people go by.

So, the next day, we actually visited the Alfred Nobel centre, and returned to the restaurant to make sure the service was as good and the wine as refreshing - and it was. The menu looked enticing and I would definitely consider eating there on our next trip - we just weren't hungry enough to do justice to the yummy looking things on offer.

I'm sure we'll return.

“Lunch on the Terrace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

My husband and I dined here for lunch on the terrace. The restaurant faced the harbour where the boats were. We were waiting for a boat cruise around the Oslo Fjords and we only had just over an hour before we had to be at the boat. Our order was taken quite quickly and the server was friendly. Our drinks were delivered to our table while we waited for our salads.

We had a glass of Sancerre wine which was crisp and delicious. The wine was 99NOK a glass. I received my chicken salad and it was quite substantial while my husband received his prawn salad. The portions were ample and nicely presented. The food was good and it was great to be able to eat outside at the beginning of May, in the sunshine. It was also interesting to watch people walking back and forth along the waterfront going to the shopping centre or to the harbour.

We realised that we still had time so had a coffee to wait a little longer. The total for the lunch was under 600NOK which was not bad considering the Oslo prices.

“Disappointing food but good and fast service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

We had a three course menu with beef meat as the main course. Both the starter (soup) and main course was disappointing. The soup was to sharp (spicy) - while the beef had a taste of liver... We had higher expectations for a place like this (run by the same company that has Onda and Oro).

The service was however good. They even had a Norwegian waitress! (not normal in Oslo these days with Swedes, Danish, Brits and south European all over).

“There is great potential here, with a few adjustments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

The service is too slow. The food takes too long to arrive at the table.
The food is excellent value and they do cook some of it ver well. Five courses for 400 is a robbery (on my part).
I have a few suggestions:
Your cauliflower soup is perfect, dont touch it.
The cod is also perfect.
The sirloin steak is rubbery. Buy better meat, serve smaller portions. This was BAD.
The cheeses. Cheese number 1 was crusty. Number 2 a chevre - choose another, maybe the customer has eaten chevre in the salad already? Cheese number 3, ok, but there are better and cheaper blue cheeses.
Alfred deserves to succeed, the waiters shoudl be more interested in telling people about the food though.
Adjust these details and you will be really great.
