Owner description: The Vigeland Park is the world's largest sculpture park made by a single artist, and is one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions. The park is open to visitors all year round. The unique sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland's lifework with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron. Vigeland was also in charge of the design and architectural layout of the park. The Vigeland Park was mainly completed between 1939 and 1949. Most of the sculptures are placed in five units along an 850 meter long axis: The Main gate, the Bridge with the Children's playground, the Fountain, the Monolith plateau and the Wheel of Life.

“Beautiful park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We visited Vigeland Park at the end of July 2012. We bought a hop-on hop-off bus ticket which stops at the park. Be aware, there are two hop-on hop-off bus companies and their buses look very similar - so it can be confusing which bus is yours.

Vigeland Park is a beautiful place to walk, with so much to look at. The main path through the centre of the park features statues to celebrate the human life cycle, from birth to death. We took the main path on the way into the park, then went off to the side for our walk back. Lots of walking paths and mature trees on either side of the statue lane.

There is a concession at the park entrance

“Fascinating”

We only had a short time to visit on the bus tour. Definitely would recommend spending an hour or two to soak it all in.

“Well worth doing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

This is one of my favorite parks in Oslo. Vigeland park is located about 15-20 min. walk from
Oslo center. The walk was very scenic. I spent here around 40 minutes looking at the strange
grantie statues and other bronze figures. I tried to count the statues but I gave up at 74…

“Carve out some time for this Sculpture Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Vigeland Park in Oslo is unlike any other park we've visited in our travels. In addition to the beautifully maintained grounds, there is the extra added bonus (in fact, the highlight) of an amazing outdoor sculpture garden. Vigeland devoted his life's work to creating this unique perspective of humanity. His sculptures represent the best (and worst) of universal traits among people and each one could provoke a discussion, a reaction or a desire to study each piece of art more attentively. The sculptures are set out in a beautiful atmosphere and the park was filled with both romantic couples strolling, individuals taking pictures, or families running and children "interacting" with the sculptures to re-create the emotions or relationships depicted. It was quite an experience. The park is set outside of the downtown Oslo area and is accessible by public transportation, but we were there on a beautiful day in August and decided to walk--which was a great choice as we rambled through neighborhoods and met several locals. It was definitely worth the visit on an otherwise very busy day of sightseeing!
