“Non posh - good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This place is well visited by "local vietnamese", and might give you a hint of the quality of the food. At this place, it is all about the food. The place is a bit scruffy, but what the heck: the food is authentic. Try # 23a

Try the excellent spring rolls and «Pho»soup. Warning this is not a posh place, a simple cafe with simply excellent food!!

“Excellent food and good value for Oslo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

We ate here after reading trip advisor reviews. It is a cafe rather than a restaurant but the food is really good. The price for Oslo is amazing and I doubt you would find anywhere cheaper. Our bill for 2 main courses and 2 beers was approx €50. The beer was cheaper than any of the bars. The staff were really friendly and the place has a really good atmosphere. It's within easy walking distance of the main sightseeing areas. We ate here on our first night and intended going elsewhere for the second evening, however after checking the menu at a "good value Indian restaurant" and finding that the average main course was way more than Hai Cafe (€25 average main course plus rice) and the beer was €15 we went back to this place. If you want good food and good value this is the place to go.

“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

This is a cafe as the service is very simple, and you have to go to the counter to pay after your meal if you don't pay with cash.
the food - IT IS GREAT! the springrolls, the soup and the noodlesallads is all just marvelous.
It is often full of vietnamese guests, and I take that as a sign og good quality of the food.

“Great fresh food, average service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Hai café serves some of the best food if you are into Vietnamese/the Asian kitchen and it is not exspencive. The service level is unfortunately quite bad, I have been eating there for years, but there is hardly a “hello” when entering or ordering. However the staff is not unpleasant or rude, they are just not very smiling or doesn’t give the little extra to make you feel welcome. However, it doesn’t matter as long as the restaurant is clean and the food delicious. The fried and the fresh spring rolls are delicious, can also recommend the tasteful soups and many of the other dishes. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a table as it quite popular, but it should not be necessary to wait for a long time. I have heard that it is even popular among the chefs around town, for their fresh well prepared products. I really recommend Hai Café, it is definitely my favourite restaurant in Oslo.
