“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

Thon Hotel Panorama proved to be a very good hotel for a week end in Oslo. The location is good, only a short walk from the Akershus fortress, the city hall, Aker brygge and Central Oslo in general. The rooms are spacious and nice with a small separate bedroom, balcony(!) and sitting area. The breakfast is also very good. Compared to other hotels in the area, the Panorama provided good value for your money.

The reviews caught our attention and the price was good! Nothing fancy about the rooms or hotel, but the rooms were clean, location was good, and the breakfast was a great way to start the day! We enjoyed the coffee, cereal, toast, and cheeses each morning. Staff was nice, and helped in directions to different places. Room was very small and shower almost impossible to actually "shower", but clean and ok for a couple days. Nothing fancy but for the price well worth it! Spend your saved money on a 90 nok beer:)

I stayed here in August because of the central location. It had clean rooms and friendly staff, but the hotel lacks character. It is ideal for business trips, but don't expect much local colour. The bed was very comfortable and my room was quiet despite the central location. Good value for money overall, I would stay here again. The breakfast was average, but I appreciated the coffee station with cups to go. More range with hot food and better service at breakfast would go a long way.

Good service, good sized rooms, not too pricey for Oslo standards.

Location is pretty central, easy walk to Nobel center etc.

Very helpful staff, free Wifi and free Nespresso in the lobby.

Never got to have the breakfast but I have heard it is good.

If you are looking for a no frills hotel right in the center of town this is the best deal. Easily within walking distance of the central train station, defense and banking industries, museums and the opera. They offer a wonder breakfast bar every morning. The rooms are sleek and modern, but the bed is not much more than a cot. The shower is in the corner of the bathroom; drains directly through the floor; and is separated from the rest of the room by a curved sheet of plexiglass. Functional, but neither private nor splash-free. During our stay their was only one elevator in operation and the stairs were blocked off, so getting up and down to our room was not very convenient. However, much better than some places I've stayed in Europe.

The hotel is conveniently located where it is quiet and at the same time you can reach the center by a short walk. The receptionists are polite and accommodating. When I checked in, I was put in a small room on the back where there's no view. Besides, it was near the 2nd floor's entrance door. So I was constantly woken up by the door sound. The hotel graciously moved me to the room at the front with a street view. There were other windows but all are confronting other rooms' windows. So if you prefer privacy, you just need to close the curtains all the time, making the room a personal cave. This hotel has a questionable design, so it depends on your luck really. The room on the top floors should be better. The bathroom is very small and is provided with soap & shampoo but nothing else. I have no problem with the wi-fi signal which is available throughout the premise. The breakfast is good with many choices to choose from, with some organic selections.

A very comfortable centrally located hotel - great for a stay in Oslo. Walking distance to the main train station for easy access to the airport and well located for accessing Oslo’s excellent public transport network. Easy to walk to all the key central Oslo sights. Excellent breakfast was included in our rate. Room benefits from typically Nordic clean lines and functionality. Doing well on the eco-front.

Public Transport:
+ Mention on hotel website for accessing the hotel via public transport but there could be more information and links to the Oslo pubic transport network and clear maps of where to catch-it from the hotel

Zero Waste:
+ Bulk soap and shampoo dispensers in the room mean none of those wasteful disposable containers or only part-used toiletries
- Was not provided the option to receive bill via email rather than getting another piece of paper to dispose of

Energy:
+ Room key operated electricity
+ Hall lights on sensors minimising energy consumption when lighting is not needed
+ Visibly high standard insulated windows – as you’d expect in Norway

Recycled and Local Products:
+ What looked like recycled paper products in the room

Environmental Information:
+ Thon Hotels website notes that all its hotels are part of an energy saving program and are part of the Norwegian EcoLighthouse environmental certification program (missed opportunity to highlight this more prominently on the website and in the description for each hotel)
- Missed opportunity to provide more specific details on individual hotel environmental performance, targets, CO2 emissions

CO2 Offset
- No option to offset CO2 emissions from stay
