My husband and I celebrated my birthday at Madu - we wanted a special "destination" restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Turns out we were the only diners the whole night so we got all the attention of the waitress, who had her own iPod playing all night (great music - thanks!) We started with char-cooked bread on a stick, served in a glass vase, with divine Norwegian butter and a glass of champagne. Dinner was five courses and my husband can confirm that the lamb is incredible. The chef had never prepared five courses vegetarian (I had requested this months before when I booked) so, although white asparagus featured heavily, my four savoury courses were all delicious. It's a pretty expensive place to eat so the vegetarian set deal is poor value (but my husband assures me his was great value). Dessert showcased strawberries three ways and a wonderful pear and dry ice feature which was a lot of fun. We had a nice bottle of Spanish red and, because we were the only ones there and it was my birthday, we got to finish the bottle of champagne she had opened for our first glass! The chef came out and talked to us about the meal, which was a nice personal touch. Madu seems to be a bit of a well-kept secret but we're sure word will get out about this great Oslo restaurant.
