“My 4 year olds favourite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

The waitress was first a little unsure of how to deal with my four year old, since they don't have a child menu, but was happy to hear that he was happy having a share of the adult's meal. The owner then came over and brought a Kinder egg to him in exchange of a promise to eat all the food. He then went out to buy a Donald Duck comics magazine to keep him entertained. Happy kid means happy parent. Fantastic food and wine pairing, led to a most splendid evening out.

“Good place to have a dinner in oslo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Excelent place in Oslo to have a dinner. It is mandatory to reserve to have a table because it is always full.. There is a menu and you can chose between a 4 or 6 dishes menu. The price is the average of a restaurant in Oslo.
The restaurant is located in a residential quarter of Oslo though you can reach it by walking from the city centre

“Great food, service above and beyond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We lived in Oslo from April 2011 to July 2012 and visited Hos Thea several times. The food was always of top quality (of course it would stand out in the culinary desert of Norway) and the service fantastic (again which stands out in a city where generally service isn't generally viewed as particularly important).

What I particularly wanted to emphasise though is that the service quality runs right to the very top of the place, by owner/chef Sergio (going from memory so apologies if that is wrong). On our second visit there my wife ordered some roast potatoes, which arrived fantastically hot, bubbling in goose (or maybe duck) fat. They, along with all the other plates, were delicious of course. It was only after the meal that we noticed that while delivering the piping hot potatoes some of the fat had splattered onto my wife's recently acquired Bottega Venetta (read = madly expensive) leather handbag. The waitress who served us was of course horrified and did her best to clean it but it soon became obvious that this wasn't going to work. The manager in charge that night spoke to the owner and they asked us to leave the bag with them and they would get it professionally cleaned.

A day later my wife got a call from the owner saying that unfortunately it turned out to be impossible to get it cleaned, due to the soft leather of the bag and how it reacted with the fat. Without any prompting whatsoever from my wife he asked how much the bag had cost her and her bank account details so that he could re-imburse her the full cost of the bag. Within two days she received the money straight to her bank account.

This is perhaps a slightly long winded story, but the point is that in these days where service of this type of quality is rarer than ever, the service received at Hos Thea was beyond first class. The whole staff and in particular Sergio the owner deserve recognition for not only the fantastic food and atmosphere, but also for taking the long view and replacing my wife's bag, without question and amazingly quickly.

We went back to Hos Thea several times after that and always had a great experience. Sadly now we have left Oslo and so I'm not sure when the next time will be that we have the chance to eat there again.

Bottom line: great food, great wine, great atmosphere, outstanding staff and service quality. Thoroughly recommended.

“Nice small restaurant with excellent dishes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant is located in one of the premium livingbareas in Oslo. A small menue that contains excellent fish and meat dishes. The kitchen is semi open which leads to lots of steam and smells if you have the table in front of the kitchen. Dishes were all very good, but a bit small as a la carte dishes. Nice St. Jacques, very good winter cod (Skrei). If yountake a desert take the "a little bit of everything" selection which was very tasteful. Wine list could be a bit broader service was not up to the kitchen standard.
