“A bit dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Stayed at this hotel for one night attending a meeting. The hotel did not have that many guests, even though I was given a room overlooking the parking area, and staff entrance...which turned out to be rather annoying as the staff went out smoking early in the morning talking etc and woke me up.
The hotel is situated nicely in the Oslofjord, a 25 min drive from downtown Oslo. The room was rather tired. There was no ventilation, so I had to sleep with the window open...even though it was February. The room was very small, had carpets and smelled strange. The bathroom both looked and smelled better than the sleeping area.
The best thing with the hotel was the food - very nice. The staff was friendly all over the hotel, but this is not a hotel I would book unless I'm on a conference.

Stayed in the "side-building". A room with no view and some strange on and off noise during the night (it sounded like there was trains passing by ?). It was quite disturbing. I agree with other comments, so make sure you get the sea-view. The lunch buffet is excellent, but if you are an early bird you should note that breakfast only starts from 07:00.
I assume that this hotel is more suited to visit during the summer months...

I have multiple stays at Holmen Fjordhotell over the years. It has grown into a very nice hotel that has managed to upgrade according to new standards, as well as maintained the well-known kitchen! They have just refurbished the top floor in the main building as well as the restaurant - and I am impressed by the new look! We have had a two day seminar at Holmen with a good conference host, splendid lunch buffet, a good 4 course dinner with excellent wines and all topped with a new refurbished room with a great seaside view. Unfortunately the winter was at its coldest and the fjord was packed with ice - but the sunset over Nesodden was beautiful as always! I recommend to ask for a room at the 3rd floor (room 335 and upwards) to make sure you get the seaside view. Great service from all staff!

Room Tip: 3rd floor (room 335 and upwards)

I have spent four nights in this hotel in April this year for business reasons. I really liked the area where the hotel is located, it is at the center of a Fjord, so the sea is very close, and if you go in summer I am sure in a sunny day must be gorgeous.
The downside is that it is not in Oslo at all. I had to take a cab to the nearest train station, Asker, and then 40 minutes to downtown. If you are on your own dime, it adds up. To compensate, I have to say the hotel is cheaper (much, close to half) than the corresponding hotel in downtown. So think about it. Surely if your main focus is downtown, you are out of place. Maybe this is a good property for vacation.
Breakfast very good, although repetitive. Rooms clean but small. I was having some sea view. Lunches and dinner - ok, but limited (very) a la carte choice.
The hotel is surrounded by nice grounds, I guess very expensive houses are all around. Bike paths and running tracks are there to enjoy.
I really recommend this place if you want to have vacations in Oslo, or if you are there to use their conference facilities. In my case I would have liked to move to downtown after my business in the hotel was over, but I simply did not know the huge distance between Oslo and the hotel.

Hotell is a bit of curiosity here. Placed on the seaside, remaining me to classic anglo-scandinavian style onthe edge of the channel or North Sea. Beautifful. Hotell too have a collection of old cars and motorcycles in basement, together with lot of souveniers from norwegian polar expeditions some 150 years ago. We used hotell as buisness meeting place for some days and can say it provided best what we can get.

My room was in the sidebuilding pavillion of the hotel, -an average room with no sea view. When the room is about average I expect it at least to be clean. Tv and shelf with dust, hair and dry shampoo on the walls in the shower...
The food was nice. During the large fest dinner the fire alarm started. The staff just stood there and watched if the guests went out! I started to walk out and opened the double door, and THEN one from the staff did the same. After 20 minutes outside in the cold (watching the fire truck arriving) we were welcome back in. No information. Highly culpable!
As a hotel for business meeting; ok.
Location: excellent!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main builing with sea view

Yet again I have been at Holmen Fjordhotell, and now the food at last was good! I even got a much better room - much larger than last time. Only bad thing about the room was that it had no view over the sea at all. Anyway, the hotel this time took it a noch up for me, so keep it up guys!
