“Excellent small outfit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Tromso Outdoor provide both equipment for rent & purchase, and guided activities from short taster sessions to longer duration. Situated in the city centre they offer cross country skiing, snow walking/hiking, mountain biking, etc., and speak fluent English. I did half day snowshoe walking in the nearby mountains, with their superb guide Kasia. Wish I had had more time to try other activities, like renting one of their mountain bikes with winter studded tyres, which looked great fun.

“Amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013 via mobile

We saw the advertisement and decided to stop by the shop to see if there would be room for 2 more to cross country ski. After discussing the weather the owner said he would take us today because it was to rain the next day. How nice! He picked us up promptly and took us on an amazing skiing adventure! We ski a lot in Colorado so we did 6 km, took a break with warm currant juice and lafsa! we took good photos and learned a lot about the city and cross country skiing. Certainly a highlight of our trip, and thanks to the warm welcome and personality!

“Snowshoeing in the Kvaløya Massif!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

On my February trip to Tromsø I was totally bewildered at the amount of activities to choose from. Pinned to the door of the Tourist Information I saw advertised a 4 hour snowshoe tour with guide in the mountains of Kvaløya. NOK 895 seemed quite reasonable to me (given that this was über-expensive Tromsø)

After being picked-up by the guide (the amiable and friendly Magne) we drove to Kvaløya. We trekked into the mountains on snow that was maybe half to 1 metre deep. It was not too arduous and not a total killer and everyone was allowed to go at a speed they were comfortable with. Oh and the views... the views were stunning! To be walking on pristine, virgin snow, with the mountains surrounding. It was pretty awesome!! Magne was very helpful, informative and interesting to listen to. He was also happy to be given people's cameras and asked to take photos of them (repeatedly!)

Coming down was much quicker. In parts you can just slide on your butt with your legs in the air. It was hilarious! Especially when it went wrong and ending up a mangled heap in the snow!! All 8 people in our group were between 10-55 years old with normal fitness and we managed the trip easily enough. Actually, we were all having so much fun (Magne included!) the trip ran over by about half an hour. So that was a bonus! A great trip with Tromsø Natur & Fritid.

“Cross country skiing - great fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

4 of us were picked up outside Radisson Hotel at 1pm & drove for 30 minutes into the mountains above Tromso. Very narrow skis, comfortable ankle boots (like sturdy hiking boots) which clip into the skis at the toe end only and poles provided. After some tuition (no previous experience required) we set off down the tracks at our own pace with the guide. Map boards at regular intervals, mostly flat with some gentle hills and so quiet and peaceful. Parents pulling babies & toddlers in little buggies on skis, dogs on long leads round owners waist and others just walking and enjoying the views.
Stopped for a welcome energy boost of hot juice & homemade cake at the biathlon ski resort where they have skiing & target shooting competitions! Bitterly cold so needed scarf over face and thermal clothing, but body soon warmed up with the exercise.
Covered about 5k and back by 4.30pm. Ached a bit the next day, but nothing a sauna couldn't cure. Can recommend this cross country skiing taster, great fun & well organised

“Get a grip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

We did a 4 hour snow shoe trip to a local hill where we gained about 400m. Great terrain to try out the excellent equipment, some areas had soft but thick powder & others areas steep and icey. We had a lovely young guide for the afternoon, his name was Johanas & he was enthusiastic, engaging and kept us all safe when the storm kicked in. I recommend this company.
