“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

The architecture of the building is simply beautiful. We went to a Summer Concert just before the midnight sun and not only was the music wonderful but the acoustics are excellent. $25+ seems a lot for a 30-minute concert but it was worth every cent.

“very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

The cathedral is visible as a main landmark as you sail into Tromso (we came in via the Hurtigruten) and from a distance it looks pretty impressive. We took the time to walk over the bridge and the closer we got the less impressive it looked. Arrive at the entrance which is quite uninviting there is a fee of 40NOK (approx £5) which is a bit of a shock and once inside we quickly wondered what all the fuss was about. Clean, white almost surgical - certainly not very pretty, very plain altar area and nothing special about the acoustics. And while the stained glass window is quite impressive it is mostly obscured by chandeliers, so effectively ruined as far as photographs go.
Much rather visit the very impressive stave churches dotted around Norway . . .

“Beautiful Cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Although we did not go inside the Arctic Cathedral, we thought it architecturally stunning from the outside. It is beautiful when lit up at night; we were lucky enough to be able to appreciate it from our hotel room across the bridge. There is an entrance fee and there are regular concerts and events held here.

“A little disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Stayed in Tromso for 5 weeks and had a beautiful view of the cathedral out my bedroom window. Lit up at night, it looks stunning against the backdrop of snow covered mountains. The cathedral is on the mainland and I walked across the bridge from Tromsø island to visit it. It cost about 40 kroner to enter the cathedral, but I don't feel it was worth the cost. The architecture is quite interesting and there is a beautiful stained glass window at the back of the altar. However, the bottom of the window was hidden behind screens. The modern organ pipes were impressive, but of course no one was playing the organ. Stands with postcards filled the back of the church, and the whole impression was utilitarian and uninspiring. The best part of my visit was the walk on the bridge across the fjord.

“Sweeping views of Tromso.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

This building looks good inside and out. Inside it looks clean and inviting and very photogenic. It has a good feel about it. Outside offers some of the best accessible, sweeping views of Tromso. Many people walked back to Tromso via the bridge which also offered excellent views. If you visit in winter, make sure you have spikes on your shoes so you don't slip on the ice.
