“Great choice in Tromso”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here mid March for a weekend. It was closely located to the bus from the airport and close to Rica hotel where a lot of activity pick ups are. We arrived early but allowed us to keep our luggage in the luggage room which is appreciated.

Rooms itself were clean and comfortable. Fridge and kettle (with sugar, tea, milk etc) was available. Bathrooms were tiny but had everything you needed.

Breakfast was good as well as the waffles in the afternoon were really yummy!

One thing that was disappointing was when in reception, one of the staff was telling another guest that the northern lights tours were a waste of money, especially when you can see the lights in town. This was when we were sitting in the lobby area, waiting for out tour.... Didn't like that at all!

Despite that, the actual hotel was great.

Some tips! Ask for a room on the 5th floor. We were lucky to get a corner room and had some great views.
Also if you are coming via the airport, by a return ticket, it's much cheaper.
Have a drink at the Rica Hotel at night if you get a chance. The view is amazing!

Pricey as everything in Norway.
Great location, nice view of the town from our room, clean, friendly staff, excellent breakfast.
But the room was too small and decorations didn't help (three unecessary bulky chairs, lamps on the walls are too low - shoulder level - and stick out too much, leaving even less space to move around). There was not enough room to open baggages. Also, the bed was a little too soft for me.

Room Tip: Our room had a window to the front of the hotel and the view has quite nice.

What a great Hotel! Located near the centre and the Hurtigruten terminal, right by tourist office. Very comfortable room and smashing breakfast. Tea and coffee in the room and a fridge for milk. Lots of local information available in the Hotel, plus so many attractions and places to eat on your doorstep! They are open 24/7 so even coming in at 2am after the 'chase the northern lights tour' was fine. Thoroughly recommend them. I was a solo traveller and there were several of us at the hotel, and it was a good choice.

The Amalie is well situated, close to the airport bus stop, shops and restaurants. There are also supermarkets nearby. The room was small but well appointed with fridge and kettle, warm and comfortable. The breakfast was good and tea and waffles were available in the afternoon. there is free wi-fi and a computer and printer available for guest use. It was very reasonably priced for Norway.

The Amalie is a great little hotel, nothing fancy, just does the business. It is centrally located for shops, restaurants and the Hurtigruten terminal. Rooms are clean and comfortable, if perhaps a touch on the small side. We took care not to spread our things everywhere. There is a kettle with tea and coffee, a hair dryer, an iron and a wonderful heated floor in the very good shower. In reception, there is free coffee and a huge assortment of teas, available in the afternoon until 5.30pm, together with do it yourself waffles. The breakfast buffet is very good, one of the best I have come across. We had bacon, scrambled eggs and beans together with cold meats, fish, cheese, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and delicious bread. There was even thick cut marmalade for my traditionally English husband. Reception was pleasant and helpful.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 night last week, visiting Tromso to chase the Northern Lights ( which we managed to see and capture great photos of!)
We got room 503, which was a corner room and possibly one if the only few room with s nice view of the water n Arctic cathedral.

The hotel is basic but nice. For the price you pay, in other parts of Europe you would get 5 stars but in not in crazy expensive Tromso! The breakfast was good, lots of cold options and 3 hot ones daily. The housekeeping is ok, most other places they would at least fold your clothes etc but not here, just beds made, towels replaced n rubbish cleared.

The hit waffles from 1:30-5:30pm daily was nice, especially when returning from winter activities.

After having dinner out most nights, we decided to stay in with a pizza one night. My husband went down to kitchen to grab a couple of plates n were told that we can't take them. We thought it was kind of rude- what would have been the big deal I don't know.

Anyway, overall it was a pleasant stay and not bad value for expensive Tromso!

Stayed here in March 2013. The hotel was perfectly situated in walking distance from restaurants, buses, museums and also the starting places of several tours. The staff here are very helpful. The buffet breakfast was very varied and very good. The facilities were very good. Our room was good and clean with comfy beds and a good bathroom. I would recommend this to anyone who was looking for a good value for money base in the centre of Tromso.
