“Pleasant staff, nice hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

Very nice hotel. Room was adequate, nothing special though. The hot tub on the top floor balcony was great. The receptionist when we stayed was very nice and helpful with ideas of where to eat and what to do. Would stay here again.

Clarion Bryggen is a 4 star hotel in a nice position close to the small harbour of Tromso.
It is a modern structure not too impressive as design but functional, clean and with a good level of service. It seems more oriented to business customers than tourists.
The rooms are as usual different, the standard ones could be small, we asked for a bigger room given the forced transfer from the near hotel of the same chain (Clarion collection) where we had some problems. So the room was a bit bigger but frankly speaking not so appealing. Simply ok.
Breakfast has been on the expected level. I have appreciated the sauna and gym on the roof with a small outside hydropool looking at the beatiful bay of Tromso.
At the end we found this choice surely ok also if for the level of price we expected something better.

our view wasn't so great but after flying half way around the world it was fine. The beds were comfy, the water pressure in the shower was great as was the temperature. We enjoyed the central location and ease of access to the ferry and other parts of town and breakfast was fine with a wide selection

I was travelling on a HURTIGRUTEN boat from Svolvær to Tromsø. The hotel is just a few steps away from the port - very good location, directly on the sea. Reception and lobby area are 4* standard. Some fancy pink velvet chairs around which I liked a lot. Check in was efficient and friendly. The elevators are nice, they remind you that here is the place to enjoy the "aurea borealis" in the winter time. Floors look a bit worn out, the rooms are ok. No colours, everything in brown grey beige - not very much my taste. There are just 3 sea facing rooms with triangle shaped balconies - 201/301/401, and on top of room 401 is a jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking Tromsø and its lovely bridge and ice cathedral. The room offered all you need in a 4* hotel. The bathroom was nice and the shower very original and smart (moveable glass wall).
What is missing is a little furniture next to the bed. They furnished the room in a way that immediately next to the bed there are the cuoboards, haha never seen that in a hotel before. Where can one put his mobile phone and personal effects which you might need while in bed??
The breakfast was very nice and abundant, my dinner satisfied me.
The worse point of criticism are the very dirty windows. They seemed to haven't seen a cleaning in 6 months :-( I told so to the girl at the front desk when she asked me if I was happy with my room. Instead of sending up someone to clean those dirty windows immediately, she just said that she will send a message to the housekeeping. Also this hotel, like most hotels in Norway, is quite overpriced in relation to what you get here...

Room Tip: 201 301 401 - only those have a triangle shaped balcony and frontal sea view!

Keeping in mind hotels in Norway are expensive, this is pretty good value for the money. The room was spacious and clean, a bit noisy in the night though but it's in the middle of the city. Location is perfect except that you have to pay for parking and arriving late might mean that you have to look for a parking space somewhere else in the city.
The jacuzzi on the top deck is lovely and the view from the sauna as well!

The breakfast is one of the best!

On the internet , they offer free bikes : this is no longer so. They have a central position in Tromso, but: no view offered at all from their rooms. You look on parking spots or worse.. Rooms are clean, but beds are much too soft . Food is regular. Nice wirhlpool on 5th floor, as is the sauna.

Stayed there with 9 colleagues for a weekend. It was in general good, as you might expect. They have conference rooms, and even a nice pool outside on the roof. The service at the reception was at time a bit slow (in every way), but it did not ruin our experience. The rooms where clean, it's central and the gym was good.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view, it's right next to the ocean.
