“Convenient with Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

A good quality service apartment with neat rooms. Walking distance from all attractions and helpful staff. The airport shuttle (flybussen) stops a block away and the walk in 2 minutes at the maximum. Would definitely stay here again.

This is not really a hotel but a serviced apartment, with basic supplies but very conveniently located in the centre of town. I stayed there recently on two occasions for two and one nights, before and after a cruise. Both times my rooms were clean and cosy. The staff at the reception was very helpful in trying to find out the fate of my lost/delayed luggage, making numerous phone calls on my behalf. It made my short stay that more enjoyable.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on higher floors, you'd have a great view of the surrounding mountains and les...

The City Living is not a real hotel but an apartment complex in the middle of Tromso, nearby the Thon and Rica hotels. It's just 10 minutes walk to the harbour. Book a superior room which are spacious including a kitchenette. You can park your car in a public parking place just a view minutes walk.

This place is not really a hotel, more a serviced apartment. I would never stay here again as it is terribly noisy. Traffic roars past all through the night and late night revellers seem to be hell bent on making as much noise as humanly possible at least until about 4am. I say at least 4 am because at this point I went and lay on the bathroom floor and managed to get a couple of hours sleep. Apart from the noise the 'hotel' is very basic but fine.

I stayed at this hotel along with my parents for a night. Hotel is nicely located with 10 mins drive from the airport, rooms are spacious, neat and clean, well furnished - everything that one needs for a stay. More importantly, the staff at the reception was very very friendly and courtious. They guided us on sightseeing tips, good nearby restaurants etc.

City Living is a great place to stay in Tromso. We loved pretty much everything about it, except for the lift which jerks once before it moves and twice before it stops. But that's a really minor gripe.

From the moment we stepped into the reception lobby, we felt totally at home. The nice young man who greeted us took pains to explain the layout of the city as well as the various attractions and restaurants which specialise in local cuisine. He also informed us where the nearest ATMs were and where the supermarket was.

The living room is uber homey, with a sofa which is also a pull out bed as well as an armchair. We really liked the fact that there was a place to hang our coats. Very few hotels and serviced apartments provide coat hooks – so these were most appreciated at City Living. I don't know but seeing our coats hung up in the living room made me feel like we were really at home.

We got the apartment with a double bed and kitchen. The bed is typically Norwegian, very soft and uncomfortable if you have an even moderately bad back. But we just dragged the mattress onto the floor and slept there. There was certainly lots of space to do that. We simply stuffed the mattress in a corner in the bedroom during the day.

We did wish the curtains were a little longer. Because we were there in June, at the time of the midnight sun (which is a wonderful if disorienting experience), the short curtains meant that quite a lot of sunlight still poured in from the bottom. If the curtains were a little longer, the room would have been bit perhaps not so bright and more conducive for sleep.

The kitchen is well stocked with a comprehensive range of cutlery, crockery and cooking implements. One suggestion – a colander to drain pasta. Having a kitchen is extremely useful because Norway is so expensive. We were able to buy reasonably priced groceries from the nearby supermarket and enjoy hot, home cooked meals. The kitchen was equipped with a tiny dishwasher which was a great thing to have since neither of us likes doing the dishes.

While towels were not changed nor tea and coffee replenished daily by housekeeping, we could get fresh towels and more tea/coffee ourselves from a little nearby nook. We could also throw out our trash and place used towels in that area – which was kept impeccably clean and neat. Kudos to housekeeping.

The hotel also provides free laundry facilities which is another major convenience and cost saver.

As a result of all these things, we loved City Living and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Unless you are Norwegian, on local wages, it seems Norway is gobsmackingly expensive, and we live in that oh so not cheap city Singapore, so take what you will from that comment. We booked a one bedroom apartment at City Living in Tromso and it was definitely the right call. We had plenty of space and a very well equipped kitchen - to which equates normal priced food if you are willing to cook.

Check in was very helpful, advice offered from everything from where the nearest supermarket was to days out. The one bedroom apartment had a very nice living area and kitchen dining area. Combined with the very nearby supermarket you can eat for a fraction of going out in Norway if you don't mind cooking with local brand goods - which we did.

Otherwise location is superb and we'd recommend this to anyone heading to Tromso. Point off 5 is for the bed, Norwegian and unbelievably soft, I ended up sleeping on the living room floor to save my back. But apart from that great place to stay in a truly a amazing place to visit.
