We went to Tromso for 5 days arriving on 28th December. We were prepared for the snow and dark days but a bit surprised at how quiet everywhere was. I guess as the world's most northern university town, when the students go home for Christmas, it does get very quiet and it appeared that during seasonal holidays the museums might advertise opening hours but dont always stick to them
It snowed most days which made the town look very pretty and watching the fireworks over the harbour in the snow on NEw Years Eve was an experience.
Enjoyed a sledging trip with the huskies at the Villmarkssenter and a scary wind swept cable car ride to the top of Storsteinen mountain.
Disappointed as the only northern lights sightings were from the plane on the way into Tromso (imagine how easy we thought they were going to be to find!)
Tromso is a good place to visit for a short time, it's advisable to book popular tours in advance and dont get too set on seeing the lights.
