“Friendly and affordable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

I stayed at the Skagen Hotel for two nights. This independent hotel was warm and comfortable with helpful and friendly staff. My large second floor room had a comfortable bed and a bathroom with a power shower. There were tea and coffee-making facilities in the room and the lounge, with free waffles in the afternoon. The buffet breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of hot and cold food, lots of different kinds of bread and fresh fruit. The hotel is very central and is a short walk to the shops, restaurants and bus station. The railway station is about 15 minutes walk and the airport and the Norwegian Aviation Museum are about a mile away. I would definitely stay here again,

This hotel needs som renovation, because the rooms are quite outdated. Especially the bathrooms needs this; the showers are small, and often makes the whole bathroomfloor wet, very few rooms have bathtubs, and they have a used old feeling to them.
Many of the rooms are in need of more lighting aswell.
The hotell seems to try to make up for the shortcommings by offerong extra services, like free coffe and waffles, and a free evening-meal.
It is also possible to use a the facilities on a nearby health-club, for free.
But all in all, I would still go elswhere for my stay in Bodø.

Feels like home while it is luxurious! There are many rooms and although the hotel seems small, it's huge inside. These are exciting times with many underground rooms provide an intimate feel. The staff provide good service as opposed to other hotels I've stayed at. The fact that Skagen is not part of a chain is commendable that they stand on their own feet and providing a separate product! They also have excellent conference facilities that I have been getting good use during my stay. Recommended!

Room Tip: I recommend that you choose a room in the basement or well inside the building. The assessment is pu...

Have been here a couple of times before. Had my best room so far - a second floor room facing the street. Would advise to request such a room if available.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Excellent breakfast with free fresh fruit, tea, coffee and even waffles in the afternoon! Rooms are comfortable but not superb (who cares as you won't be inside for long). Lots of tv channels with English, great shower and good beds. Hotel has a sauna and a brilliant library with Chesterfield wingback chairs, sofas and plenty of books to read. I got a very good deal on the room so was fantastic value. Well fed, watered and staff very friendly, helpful and polite. The waffles were delicious, I had space to lick my bike and the library was great to relax and watch the sun 24 hours a day during summer. Can't recommend thus place enough for active holidays or just a relaxing stay.

Nice, clean, professional. Nice extras like the "Help-yourself-making-your-own-waffles" in the lobby (quite common in Norway), and a free evening meal (basic cold buffet, more or less like the breakfast). Free wi-fi, but very very slow (almost unusable) at typical peak hours.
Breakfast was fine, the usual Norwegian buffet. Before 9 AM the coffe was served at the table in a cafetière (French press), far too watery for my taste. The machine coffee served after 9AM was better. There was also a person frying everyone's egg at their taste - like in Britain - but bad ventilation, so the egg smell filled the entire breakfast room. Any egg allergic would need to have their breakfast in their room.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2011

I wrote a prevoius review in October 2010. Everything was the same this time, except that I found the room I got this time to be not as good as the last one. It was located in the main building, facing the courtyard, where a ventilation shaft at the adjacent laundry kept making noises. Also, the bathroom was not very good, with water from the shower drenching the floor.

All in all, I'm still happy - but would request a room not facing the back yard next time.
