“Great place for the whole family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

I would recommend to visit the museum when the outdoor-area is open and there are activities running. We went there on a chilly Sunday in June, and in that type of weather, it was quite the perfect place to visit. Two trains operate on the outdoor-premises, there is a carrier with a small cafe - reasonably priced.

The indoor-facilities (exhibitions) are also very nice, although an upgrade of some of it would be fitting. The children can build their own tracks, very popular. All in all, a clear recommendation, most notably in the summer season.

Good to know: In the winter season, there is free admission on Saturdays. Visit the website for updated info.

Ok place to kill an hour with the kids. But I fell it lacks something. And it would not hurt to refresh the place a bit.

“Interest in trains required!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

One of the better train museums I have visited. A nice combination of a quite modern exhibition hall and a large outdoor park area with a moving narrow gauge steam train. There are also thematic exhibitions in the old museum house on the grounds. Whereas the main exhibition hall is modern and well up to date regarding presentations and the societal impact of railways in a sparsely populated country like Norway, the older exhibitions are much more static and does not live up to modern museum standards. I visited out of season, and there is no opportunity to buy any food or drinks, apart from an automat in the main building. In summer, there is an old restaurant car serving as a a cafe in the park. Nice little shop in the main building. For those with an extra interest in railways, there is an extensive library service in the same building, with possibilities of searching for archives and pictures.

“nice if you like trains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Being a train driver, I loved it.. ;)
The museum offer a free train ride to the other side and a tiny train for kids.
the main building has activities for the kids and lots of information about traindriving trough the times. while the outside areas have the big steam engine stored.
