5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013 via mobile

My wife & I spent 4 days here to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and my 50th birthday. The experience was fabulous! The hotel is centrally located within the heart of Vienna, directly across from the St. Stephan Catherdal, and within walking distance to all the major sites. This is a dynamic, energetic and vibrant location; the feel is similar to that of Time Square in NYC.

The vibrance of the outside continues to the inside of this hotel; the bar & restaurant are destinations for the hip that live in Vienna, however the hotel can reach to the appeal of many. Many of the negative comments that have been written about the hotel are true: the entrance to the hotel is underwhelming & the bar is smoky (smoking is permitted inside restaurants/bars within Austria). That's it, the rest is all positive.

The Deluxe city view room is spacious and well appointed. The bed and pillows are wonderful. The room is very quiet with regards to the outside noise. The view of the Catherdal is breathtaking. You will not be dissapointed.

The true beauty of this hotel is the staff. Take note of these reviews-the general manger answers almost all of them; Michael was receptive to all of our needs & provided a very nice "rosy" surprise for our celebration. Katalina & Anna serve as both reception and coincerige. Both were extremely knowledgeable and assisted us with all of our needs, with smiles and grace.

The restaurant is excellent for both breakfast and dinner. Ingredients here are wholesome and fresh. Chef Andy completely anticipated our breakfast desires and did not dissapoint. The Amex Fine Hotel & Resorts complimentary afternoon tea service was a lavish antipasto presentation accompanied by champagne followed by an incredible array of desserts, this was unlike anything we have ever seen! What a great way to end our fabulous stay at the Do & Co.

Thanks to all of you,

Robert & Maria

I spent one night at Do&Co which is located smack in the middle of Vienna, opposite the Cathedral on Stephansplatz. Because of the way I booked it, I was immediately awarded with an upgrade to an amazing suite overlooking the old city. With living room and large bar, separate from a bedroom and full bath, and balconies all around, I felt like royalty. The bed was comfortable and the bath well appointed and the design, overall quite modern. Also, the restaurant served very tasty food. On balance, though, the restaurant is just one open level above their disco bar and so it was rather loud where I was sitting. The hotel lobby is a counter at the entrance to this bar which overlooks the city and is a great spot for a drink. But the bar also had a white sofa for guests only which was empty, giving you some indication of how popular this hot spot is with non-guests. During the night there was dance music nearby till a very late hour. And the breakfast buffet was more conventional and a little disappointing compared with what you find at the Kempinski. But the dinner was tasty. So if you are looking for a hotspot to sip a drink and be cool, this is your place. If you are looking for a quiet location, there may be a better spot.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. We are more than happy that you have enjoyed your stay with. Indeed the DOME Suite is really something special and it's unforgettable sitting on the terrace overlooking St. Stephens Square.

Indeed the ONYX Bar is famous with the locals. We think that this is very important as our international hotel guests don't feel like a "tourist" as you are in the middle of the local crowd.

I was wondering about your comments about our breakfast buffet as we regularly receive amazing comments about the selection and the way it's presented. Have you taken advantage of our morning chef, who prepares all kinds of eggs, sausages etc. live for you? Nevertheless we will take your comments into our next development meeting with our F&B department to maintain our breakfast.

If you plan to return to Vienna please feel free contacting me personally at any time and I'll be happy to take care on your reservations personally.

Thanks and best regards from Vienna

Michael

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at the end of July. The hotel is located in the most central location in Vienna and the rooms were nice and clean. The staff, including the manager were extremely friendly and helpful. They were always interested in how our stay was going and helped us with good suggestions for meals and directions. We loved the bar and its view of the church. We would stay here again.

If you enjoy the pleasures of traditional luxury hotels such as fluffy towels, spacious rooms, privacy in room, and greatly maintained premises, the do & co is not for you.

If however you are looking to stay smack in the middle of Vienna, and have a taste for design and a hipster scene that feels much more like a bustling nightclub than a hotel, you'll love it.

Besides the fact that tastes can differ, here's soe of the facts from a recent stay.

The hotel is locaed at the heart of vienna's shopping district, on the Stephansplatz. Taxis and cars cannot access the front of the hotel but can et you to about 50m disance. So there's some carrying of luggage involved. Wen you find the hotel's entrance, wich is a challenge as it is not properly signaed, there is only a dilapitaded and unused old reception desk there to meet you. You need to pass this and move on to the elevators in the back of the entsnce to head to the manned reception on the 6 th floor. If you come in after 19.30, be prepared for a shouting match with the receptionist. The Onyx bar which is right next to the reception is a bustling nightclub and the music will require said shouting to make yourself heard.

Music in the bard kcontinues until 2 am. We were very afraid that this would all be heard in our room n the 6 th floor, but I must give credit to propper building techniques as thesounds are fully drowned out. Thankfully!

The rooms facing the outside of the hotels really do have breathtaking views. The ones on the inside however are not worth your money.

Rooms are very well designed, but of the hipper design type that some traellers will recognize. Glassed in shower next to the bed, glassed of toilet, funky minibar etc. Great if you like it, complicated and a bit uncomforable if you enjoy traditional hotels.

The biggest concern is that there is quiet some wear and tear visible. It seems like thehotel is over its peak. Te chairs in the restaurant ae scuffed, carpets in hallways are stained, etc.

And comsidering all that, it is quickly an overpriced hotel. At 6 eur for a cup of coffee and 58 eur (!!!) for breakfast for two, you expect nothing but perfection.

Dear Patrick,

thanks for your feedback and of course for having chosen the DO & CO Hotel Vienna during your last time in our beautiful city. Let me first point out, that we take your comments very serious and will use them in internal meetings in order to improve our high standards and expectations we set into our selfes.

Indeed, if you are expecting an traditional "imperial Viennese time" hotel you are totally wrong with us. As we are a proud member of Design Hotels or interior philosophy is more contemporary. But the wonderful thing is that you are staying in a modern and contemporary hotel but everytime you look out of the window you see typical traditional Vienna! In terms of specious rooms I may clarify that our rooms have a minimum size of 32 sqm which are the largest standard rooms in Vienna. Well of course if you want to enjoy even larger rooms (Junior Suites and Suites) those are available for you to book.

Taxis can enter the pedestrian zone of St. Stephens Square until 10.30 am. After that they usually stop at Singerstrasse which is indeed a 40 meteres walk accross St. Stephens Square. We always communicate with our clients prior to their arrival that they may call us a few minutes prior to their arrival so our doormen crew can pick them up and accompany to us.

You may have recognized that St. Stephens Square is a very busy place with thousands of people running aroung. That's why we have decided to keep our entrance not to popular and the reception on 6th floor. By doing that not "everybody" (please don't take me wrong by saying that) may enter the hotel and our clients have a "checking in above the others" feeling.

The ONYX Bar is a famous place for the locals which should be attractive for our clients. You don't feel like a tourist as you are in a place which the locals love too. So you can exprience Viennese night live too.

We are acutally changing the chairs in the restaurant soon and will alse put new carpets in the corridors. But imagine that in other "more traditional" hotels there are carpets in the rooms too, which is not really hyganic. That's why we have teak wooden and travertine stone floors in all rooms. I hope you have enjoyed that :-)

Please feel free contacting me personally at michael.spangl@doco.com at any time and I'll take care on all your desires.

Thanks and best regards from Vienna

Michael

Staying right in the heart of Vienna with a view of St.Stephens is about as good as it gets. The room was modern, clean and well presented. There was nothing lacking on comfort. We would stay again at the hotel on our next visit.
Note: If arriving by car, one needs to make prior arrangements to have your luggage taken care of and the car parked. It works well as long as you follow their instructions.

Dear Kurt,

thanks for your kind review and of course for having chosend the DO & CO Hotel Vienna for your recent stay in Austria.

We feel very happy that everything was to your entire satisfaction and you have enjoyed your time with us.

Indeed, the best location in Vienna has also a little disadventage :-) As we are in the pedestrian zone of St. Stephens Square our guests have to walk 25 meters from the car pick up to the hotel. It makes us even more happy that our solution we created was perfect for you and our doorman crew has handled your arrival perfectly.

If you ever plan to visit Vienna again, please feel free contacting me personally at any time and I'll be happy assisting you.

Thanks and best regards from Vienna

I enjoyed staying at this hotel in June 13 and can recommend it for all occasions. Excellent location, rooms, breakfast (the terrace and the view are wow!) and bar area. Service was also excellent.

I stayed there with a business group and they were very impressed as well.

I would certainly go back.

Room Tip: If possible a room with a view..
