i looked at position on city map and thought it looked a little far out, but accepted review comments on great location and it proved to be just that.
Main shopping area a block away, good restuarants handy, as is metro.
Museum section is 15 min walk or hop on subway. Schromnbrunn Palace is just as handy in other direction.
Pension provides excellent breakfast, information and our great to deal with via email.
they provided great directions too if you are arriving by train and wish to use public transport.
We spent four nights there as there is so much to see. Do not miss Sisi s apartments and Imperial Burial Crypts.

I am going to buck the trend here and say that I really wouldn't go back to this pension. We were a group of 4 (2 couples) who had booked 2 nights in the family apartment. Unfortunately, we were caught up in a strike in Greece and were not able to make it the first night. When we realised this, the morning before our scheduled arrival at the pension, we phoned to inform the pension and we were told that we would still be required to pay for the night we weren't there. Well......I suppose that this is stated in the cancellation policy but...... I was a little put off by this attitude - not even an offer to reduce the rate. We still stayed there the second night but did not find it as 'friendly' as others have stated.

In the cancellation policy it states
'Cancellation policy: Please note that one night will be charged if you cancel/change your room reservation less than 21 days before arrival. The cancellation fee is 100 %, if you cancel/change your room reservation less than 7 days before arrival.
If I understand this correctly, it means that if your plans change, for whatever reason, you will be required to pay for your full stay - WHAT! this is quite ridiculous as there are many legitimate reasons people might need to change their travel plans. I would rather stay in a small hotel that doesn't have such stringent rules and regulations. It would be worth paying a little bit more to have peace of mind.

Our room consisted of one bedroom and then another large room which had a bed in it...the bathroom and toilet was separate. The toilet had such a smell that I really couldn't use it -- and really can't remember when I experienced so foul a smell. This wasn't because it was unclean but because of a real problem with venting the room. This was reported to the management.

It must be explained that this pension is really a small hotel and as such seems to have many rooms, with and without bathrooms. The hotel seemed to be clean and the breakfast was quite good although I really object to being asked to pay cash - I understand when the pension or b & b is a small concern but this is not small concern - and I figure that this is a way of avoiding tax, which I strongly object to.

Staying here this week and next (from June 2nd). Less than 5 minutes walk to the Zieglergasse U3 metro. Even less than that to Mariahilferstrasse which has all the shops and many of the restaurants. It's called Pension Kraml but, really it's a professionally run hotel which even has the "towels in the sink means you want them changed" notice. Post-war building and my current room (22) has shared facilities, a wash basin but no TV. Really nice breakfast this morning. Large selection of meats, bread, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, onions, pickles, tomatoes, olives.....................so allow at least an hour for breakfast. One of the sons checked me in. Very professional but, friendly. Mariahilferstrasse is a bustling street, bit of a culture shock from the quieter 3rd district where I normally stay. My room was 45 Euros. Looks like 3 floors of rooms but no lift.
