I found this hotel because of many positive comments on this site but our experience did not live up to the reviews. There are some nice things about the hotel and some flaws.
On the positive side, the hotel is extremely well managed and all the employees seem intent on anticipating customer needs and being cheerful and helpful. The breakfast staff, in particular, are super pleasant hard workers. Breakfasts are good and the variety of eggs made to order which are well liked by Americans are not universally offered in Austrian hotels. Other parts of the breakfast buffet were just ok. Coffee is average for Vienna which is the birthplace of fine coffee and coffee culture. The location is very close to the Museum Quartier which houses the modern and contemporary art museums, a dance performance center, architectural center and lots of art
related activities and pretty close to the palace and older museums and tourist sites. The hotel is located on a busy shopping street which contains more moderately priced shops than the streets in the historic district and it is lively and refreshing to walk among lots of locals doing their daily shopping.
The hotel has a charming feel to it and the breakfast room and hallways are filled with paintings and sculptures.
On the negative side the rooms themselves are very small, My deluxe room did not have enough space to perform my morning floor stretches. Decor is dated and the drapery old fashioned and furnishings somewhat dreary. The bed, described as moderately firm, was the least comfortable hotel bed I can remember.
Most glaring is the need for an updated a/c system. At its coldest setting our room was uncomfortably warm. Worse, even when cool outside, the busy street requires that windows be shut or the noise is intolerable. One cool evening I left one window open for the refreshing breeze but was constantly disturbed by the shouts of the many young people who enjoy this neighborhood till after 5:30 am when traffic noise begins to pick up. Complaints about the temperature were met with a statement that our a/c was working.
A hotel that can't deliver on a good nights sleep, no matter its other charms, is not deserving of a top rating.
And while the reservation service this is part of is called small luxury this is not a luxury hotel.

Thank thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on your experiences in our hotel. We are happy that you liked our excellent location, cheerful services and employees, our artwork and our breakfast employees. Regarding the coffee we would like to inform, that we offer – in addition to our “breakfast coffee” - a wide range of Viennese coffees like Melange or Espresso.
We are very sorry that you did not feel comfortable in our small but well appointed rooms. Out furnishing and decor are not dated or old fashioned, this is of course a matter tast. Infact the rooms have been renovated in 2009 deliberately not “designed and cool” but rather with “Viennese cosy chic and warm colours”.
We changed our mattresses in October 2012 and now we offer a 5-star-quality mattress. Unfortunately for some of our guests this mattresses are not ideal, but normally our guests are very happy and honorably mention the quality of bedding. Sorry for the uncomfortable sleeping.
Regarding our air condition system we state that in this “summer of the century” with it’s about 100 °F (40 °C) our air conditioning system worked really good with only 2 short dwell times (not during your stay!). We are sorry that the minimum temperature of approximately 65 °F (18 °C) was not satisfactory for you.
And we understand, that opening the window in city center is difficult because of the lively surrounding, as we are situated in an area with a lot of trendy clubs and bars opened until morning hours. We also want to apologize for not handling your complaint about the room temperature appropriatly.
