“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We stayed here recently and had a great time. The City is also stunning.

The gentleman (Manuel) at the desk was attentive, friendly and knew his stuff when it came to the city.He did everything he could to assist us. He was excellent.

Our room was first rate. The air conditioning was needed and the room was well insulated from the noise of the city outside. It was furnished to a very high standard and the bathroom was also perfect (no need to bring mouth wash!). It also contained things that make a difference such as blackened out blinds which are really useful during the summer months. Oh, and its the best smelling hotel I have ever entered. You'll know what i mean when you walk through the reception area.

The only minor issue we had was as on one morning we encountered a breakfast attendant with a minor attitude problem (whatever you do, do not offer her your room number before seating. She really doesnt want it...).

Overall, I would recommend this fantastic hotel to anyone. The City isn't half bad either...

The location of this sophisticated boutique hotel was great! Walking distance to so many of the major attractions, and close to the metro to get everywhere else. Nice breakfasts. Very courteous and helpful front desk staff. Central Europe was having a particularly hot spell, so the A/C was most welcome! The room size was good. Loved the very unique and special touches - the spa on the lower level and the glass enclosed elevator in the spiral staircase.

Hotel is small, right on Mariahilfer. At first we were concerned that it would be noisy and in an overly commercial area - but it is perfect! Beautiful room - and hotel smelled great! Easily walkable to Schonbrun, Museum Quarter, metro, Naschmarket, cafes, restaurants. Excellent breakfasts. Very helpful staff. Decor for the public and sleeping rooms is gorgeous and very unusual.

Room Tip: We were on the corner in the front, on the 5th floor. Very quiet and with a small terrace overlookin...

We thank Bettina for her friendliness and great help with directions to the shopping where we managed to get some nice ties and handbags.
With regard to the hotel, bed and pillows were comfy and just right for us! Our room didn't face the main street and was very, very quiet. We had four nights of good sleep. Thank you to the hotel management and staff for this! Bath was good. I would have been even happier if the shower pressure hadn't been so weak because, unlike my husband, I always prefer shower to bath. What I did to solve this problem was that I booked and used the spa room, in order to use the great shower there, starting from our second night.
One note: The steam room and sauna room weren't always on (maybe due to energy saving, I can't be sure). If you are really keen on using either of these rooms, it will be a good idea to check that it's on, before taking off your clothes. Perhaps the hotel could arrange to have a staff member check this before a guest goes into the spa room. I myself encountered the minor issue of an empty shower gel bottle after wetting my hair in the shower inside the spa room, and had to run upstairs to the reception to ask for replacing that with a new one.

Amenities including bath and shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion, nail file, cotton pads and cotton buds were available and replenished when necessary. Slippers and bathrobes are nice. We didn't have problems with cleanliness of towels during our visit - seems that management had taken previous comments into account.

Check out (also completed by Bettina) was fast and hassle free. Check in by David was similarly quick. Staff at the reception were all helpful in fact. Bettina is the really patient young lady and had made our stay more enjoyable.

I would definitely recommend Das Tyrol to other travellers, especially those who are into all those museums nearby!! It's such a short walk!

Our first day in Vienna was cooler than expected. The main street is a shopping street and so I could get a reasonably priced jacket quickly without interrupting our original plan. The hotel has umbrellas for you to borrow and use too :)

We stayed here for 3 nights in July. Our room was quite a good size, especially for European hotels with a very good bathroom. Excellent super ice cold water from the tap - better than bottled water anyday!
Handy to bars & cafes & shopping. Free Wifi was good. Loved the art work. Quaint very small lift.
Nice light breakfast room and buffet with helpful staff. Omlettes & scrambled eggs cooked to order.
Always a nice smell in the reception.

Loved the hotel and loved Vienna.

Stayed here for 3 nights and were very satisfied. Room was typical size for a European hotel (i.e., small) but very comfortable, elegant, and clean. Washcloths provided - a plus and not always done in Europe. Expresso machine was nice. Lobby and restaurant well decorated with great and unusual art work. Especially love the lighting in the lobby. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good and they would cook eggs to order. Loved the location as it was close to the Museum quarter and easy to get to the U and S bahn stops. The spa was amazing, with aquarium, lighting, sauna, steam room, and fantastic shower.

The hotel is part of the small luxury hotels network and is set on a quiet street just off the main shopping street and the museum quarter. Included in the rate was internet, breakfast and use of a nespresso machine. I was in what looked like a small attic room at the top of the hotel. As such the room was small with no view. The room had a twin bed which I found difficult to sleep on. Breakfast is in a small room on the ground floor. This doubles as restuarant for dinner but looks unappealing for this. Staff service is friendly and good. There is no gym but a sauna is available for bookings. Overall for a short trip this is an acceptable hotel for the price point if you are on busines or a quick sight seeing excursion.

Dear Mr. Wells,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a customer review and let us know your feedback about your experiences. We are very happy to read that you enjoyed the good and quiet location on the shopping mile Mariahilferstrasse so near to all major museums. Thank you for commending the friendliness of our staff, good breakfast, free Nespresso service, free WLAN and our private spa.

Regarding the remarks about your room we would like to comment on as follows:
You reserved a double room for single use which we provided at your arrival. As you did not let our receptionists know about your unhappiness with this room, they could not help with a change of rooms. If guests tell us their wishes we always do our utmost to make them satisfied with their stay at the Tyrol. We have now noted in our file that you don't like our atic rooms (we have 3 out of 30).
We are also very sorry that you did not like the view to our neigbor house vis-à-vis. To tell the truth: Neither do we! Unfortunately we do not have any influence on the aesthetic presentation of our house vis-a-vis and so we are unable to affect any changes.

There are two other details we would like to get clear: We do not offer any restaurants or gym in our Small Luxury Hotel because there is not enough space for it. Fortunately we are situated in the middle of Vienna and everything is really in walking distance. And in adition we offer a small menue with italian dished to be served in room.

We truly hope that we will welcome you again in the future.

Thank you and best regards,
Helena Ramsbacher
