“Real pizza in Vienna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

I'm italian and I often go to Vienna for business reasons. I definitley recommend this place, the chef is italian and the piazza is really good!! I tried other italian pizzerias in Vienna but in my opinion this is the best. Moreover, the place is nice, waitresses are really kind and they have good beers. The kitchen is open till late considering Vienna standard (it happened to me go there and eat at about 10.30 PM).
It is not rellay cheap since a Margherita costs 8€, but we are not in Italy and this is definitely in line with Vienna prices.

“Great ambiance, great pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013 via mobile

They have the best pizza in town, peacefull and warm ambiance, situated not far from the city centre. The staff was very nice and polite. Totally recommend it.

“Vienna's Best Pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

Pizza Riva is the best pizza in Vienna. Boasting accreditation from southern Italy, Riva is a small to medium sized pizza joint offering quality Italian style food.

Riva is slightly outside the centre of town, being a tram ride away from most places. The 1 and the D pull up pretty close but it is just about within walking distance of Schottentor.

The decor and atmosphere are ok, the tables are a little bit tightly packed in but on the plus side the ability to see the huge pizza oven is cool. Always a plus sign when a restaurant is prepared to have its work on full display.

Service is fine, a bit above normal Vienna service. The staff are in the main probably university students. English is fully understood here.

There are a range of wines and other drinks available, a decent set of typical offerings.

The food though is absolutely tremendous. The pizza is the perfect combination of light and flavoursome. The crust is cooked well so does not fall into the undercooked doughy trap. It is crunchy enough without being a challenge.

There are cheese options and pizzas without cheese. Either seems to work very well. The sauce base is absolutely tremendous. Flavoursome, light, delicious. The toppings are almost a bonus given the excellent base. For those who need things a little sharper, chilli oil is available. For those who like it hotter, the spicy options are quite strong.

Other options are also available but with pizza this good it isn't immediately obvious why.

Price came in marginally below the central district tourist pizza places but a bit above other pizzeria. Booking may well be necessary, it was for this group for lunch.

In a large group some of whom were repeat visitors, this was a unanimously excellent experience.

“Utter disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

After reading a raving review about "Riva" in a magazine, we tried to make reservations twice (no luck, not even on a rainy Monday night!) and show up three times not at peak times, including on a Monday late afternoon (no luck!). The last time (ever!) was tonight...the restaurant features "open until 11pm", which is pretty early anyway for a Saturday evening in what is downtown Vienna. Just as the times when they were full and simply sent us away, instead of trying to see if one of their many tables would soon be free anyway, the rejection was flat and cold...an Italian restaurant? Today we got there at 10:40-no chance either...I promised the owner/manager who sent us away in Italian, that my comment would be on Trip Advisor tonight. Voilà!
Try "Da Filippo" or the "Cara Mia" chain, "Il Mare" on Zieglergasse or simply, "Bizi", which has several outlets in town...neither one of those will disappoint you.

“Good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Good service, warm and pleasant welcome from the service team. Pizza, better than average, there are tons of Pizzaria in Vienna and unfortunately, in my opinion as I have been through more than a few places I would say that there is nothing special about their pizza, it is good but nothing spectacular. What I appreciate the most is the care and service they showed which is not so usual in Vienna.
