"Cafe Neko" made the news in Australia as a novelty upon opening in May 2012, so naturally as a cat lover heading to Vienna in a fortnight I thought I had to see this new place! Tucked down a little lane, it is a bit tricky to find but with the aid of modern iphone maps, we found it. It was quiet with several patrons already inside and a few cats wandering around. We sat down and we waited and waited and waited. As you can see, I had time to pop up and take photos after we had perused the menu. No-one acknowledged our arrival, no-one came to take our order and worst of all the place was so poorly ventilated that it smelled like we were in a giant litter box. Granted it was a very warm day, but this should have been taken into account in the design process. I was disappointed because the Japanese (the owner and cafe name are Japanese) are usually lovely people, excellent with hygiene AND service. I love cats and I had really looked forward to this place and brought my dear husband under sufferance. If we had had even a smile or nod from the waiter or owner, we would have waited- but they probably didn't even notice we were there. I don't think a business can last like this for long. I hope they read this review because the idea is wonderful and novel but they must understand that hungry and thirsty people who track down their cafe from all over the world want to be served when they come in to the establishment and are willing to pay for this. This is normal business sense!! Unfortunately I cannot rate the coffee or food. Anyone who reads my contributions knows I am fair and compliment many establishments. It is sad that I had to write this review.
