“Impressive but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

It's nice to see how emperors lived in old days (and presumably also nowadays), but exposition itself should be more interactive and not just an exposition of almost each plate and cup that they have used.

“Most Enjoyable!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This was one of the most enjoyable collections for me in the Hofburg. The complimentary audio guide added greatly to my appreciation of these magnificent displays. I had not previously known that porcelain had not been used for dining other than for desserts until silver had been melted down to fill the coffers after the Napoleonic Wars. All of the displays were wonderful, but I particularly enjoyed seeing the sets of Blue Flow, Sevres, Meissen, and handpainted Austrian china. Oh to be able to set a table with any of these!

“Extensive collection of items from the Imperial kitchens to the dinner table”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

Also called The Silver Collection, this is a rather extensive collection housed in the Hofburg Palace. The exhibit includes from the cookware of the Imperial household, to the table linen and various services, to the elaborate table centerpieces and the elegant eating implements and delicate dinnerware of the Imperial family. Particularly enjoyed looking at the burnished Grand Vermeil Service, the more colourful/less formal plates as well as the highly secret table napkin fold for Imperial dinners. The Silberkammer is the 1st part of the Hofburg Palace tour, and the audio guide that comes with the ticket is sufficient for navigating through the collection. This is the only section where photography is allowed.
