The Ibis Budget Santz Marx is a good budget hotel not too far from the Vienna City Centre. The hotel itself appears to be an old hospital building converted into a hotel. The corridors have low ceilings, big double doors and what seems to be the remains of a nurse's station. Functionally, none of this was a problem but just slightly disconcerting and mostly an observation.
The rooms were modern the beds were comfortable and they were airy and well lit. I actually liked the funky evening lighting behind the rails that light up the room. The bathroom facilities were primitive but again, this is a budget hotel. My only criticism of the bathroom facilities is that the shower floor is very slippery and instead of fixing it with even a shower mat, they simple put up a warning sign. Dear manager - thanks for letting me know that I'm going to slip on a wet floor rather than fixing it !
The Internet was quite good as it seemed to be quick with whatever we did. The car park however, was a nuisance. One of the reasons we booked this hotel was that it had a carpark, however as we arrived late in the evening, we (and other guests) found that the boom gate wasn't working and therefore we couldn't park inside. We were given the excuse that the carpark was full and therefore, the boom gate system wouldn't let any more cars in. However, a quick walk down to the carpark revealed that there was almost NO cars down there. This leads to me my tip....
Tip - instead of parking in the hotel (and therefore paying for it), about three blocks or so away on Liftstrasse, you can park your car there all day for free. We left our car there and it had no problems. It was a well lit street and there were far more expensive cars parked there than ours, so we were comfortable.
All in all, I would return to the hotel for a short stay so long as it was for work or passing through. If you are on holidays or a romantic weekend in Vienna then this isn't the place for you.
