“Will definately come back here again !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

I didn't plan to choose this hotel, we just didn't book any hotel beforehand and just were looking for one when we arrived to Vienna. I was really pleased when I walked into the hotel Rathaus but before I did it I didn't expect much. The hotel is really nice, designed in modern style, really nice old building, very nicely renovated. All the rooms are named with different kind of austrian winery and you can of course find this wine in the room's mini bar.

Lady in front desk told me the room is 118 EUR but when I checked hotel's web site, it shows higher prices so this was definately something I would not expect. Cheaper room for a walk in !!! Superb !!! The breakfast is 15 EUR per person but it's worth it big time, it was actually the best thing about the hotel although everything else was great.

Hotel is situated nearby all the sights of Vienna, within walking distance to all museums, shops etc. It is also very quite.

The room was very nice, great bed and mattress. Very modern, design style, open bathroom :) we did like it a lot ! AC was working perfectly and WIFI access was for free. There was also no problem with street parking as the hotel does not have its own parking. There is a garage parking one minute from the hotel but it's no problem to park on the street.

Just accross the street there is a tiny, cute Mexican restaurant run by a mexican couple. Realllllyyyy good food with fair prices. If you ever sleep in Rathaus and like Mexican food it's a MUST !!!

We booked following rave reviews on TA and even then the hotel beat our (high) expectations. Impeccably decorated rooms- well stocked toiletries, great bathrooms, and as everyone says the breakfast is quite superb. Check it out if only to see the 30 plus different jam pots with spoons all aligned at the same angle! Whilst they don't do food, we had a pleasant bottle of wine (or three) in the courtyard, and would recommend the "wine plate" of anti pasti- again beautifully presented and more than enough if you'd been eating out all day. Great location, really close to the sights and staff super. Would deffo return, and also try out their sister hotel in Salzburg.

We stayed at Rathaus for 5 nights in August. It is a beautiful and comfortable hotel. Fine modern decor. But, the breakfast was one of the best I have been served ever. I would truly recomend to have breakfast at the hotel even if you lodge somewhere else.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Rathaus. I was concerned that it would not live up to the reviews/online description but it did. The service was excellent with warm and helpful staff--available 24 hours--who seemed to think a step ahead of you to make your stay comfortable and easy from local recommendations to providing train tickets to arranging airport transfers. I was very happy with my room--spacious, well-lit with large windows, very well air-conditioned during a quite hot summer week, and of modern design. Importantly, the room was also very quiet helping me quickly get over jet lag. The wine bar in the evenings is a lovely space to wind down at the end of the day while sampling local wine and the breakfast spread is really wonderful as others have described. The lounge also has a great collection of tour books for guests to use. I was traveling for business but the location is ideal for both work (close to many different subway lines) and for leisure (short walking distance to the museums and a pleasant 15 min stroll to the city centre monuments).
I would look forward to staying here again.

- very quiet and comfortable room overlooking the courtyard.
- service we experienced as excellent: all our questions are requests were replied promptly, efficiently an with a smile. the girls give you the impression that you are a valuable customer and not just a tourist passing by
- beds and pillows: good quality
- A/C worked perfectly
- wired internet, very fast.
- breakfast opulent and good quality. pastries are to die for (literally)
- whole hotel is non-smoking (thumbs up!!!) apart from the courtyard, so this was a place we never went

minuses:
- room was not that well cleaned. it also has contains some dustcollectors like a light-ceiling above the bed.

Location was perfect for us. Josephstadt is a hidden gem, a real living neighborhood with convenient shops and excellent restaurants.

Tip : il sestante, italian restaurant a few blocks away. if you like authentic no-nonsense italian food with ditto people and decor: this is the place!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
An unusual hotel concept in Austria’s capital, Vienna. The Hotel Rathaus Vienna Wine & Design represents the Fleischhaker family’s pleasure concept with its vinophile philosophy. At every step you will be confronted by the theme of wine in the modern design hotel: the wine cheese on the breakfast buffet, the wine guglhupf with your coffee, the wine cosmetics in your room – wine is simply everywhere.
Intensive dealing with a vintner is the invitation of each of these 39 tastefully furnished rooms. The individually designed double rooms are each dedicated to a top Austrian vintner, who provides noble wines for the “somewhat different” minibar. The director Conrad Schröpel and his team are happy to share the sensory experience of drinking wine with their guests. The wines of the Vintner of The Month are discussed unpretentiously in the wine lounge over glasses of wine, and knowledge of wines and vintners is exchanged in an uncomplicated manner. Tasting are also naturally organised on agreement – for individuals, interested guests and for small groups or conference participants. Austrian delicacies, prepared according to recipes by the house chef Klaus Fleischhaker, round off the hotel’s unique indulgence offer. ... more   less
