“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Stayed for 3 nights in August with our sons. Great location in Vienna near Prater Park and 2 ubahn lines so you could get anywhere in Vienna easily and quickly. The hotel upgraded both our rooms when we arrived to WienerArt rooms which was a nice surprise. Both rooms were very spacious, tastefully decorated and had modern bathrooms. Breakfast was wonderful - everything you could think of to eat and the best by far on our two week trip round Austria.

The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Great old fashioned hotel with old fashioned service.

This was our 62nd hotel stay on an extended around-the-world trip. We stayed three nights in a double room booked through booking.com two days prior to our stay, for an average of EUR105/night (USD/AUD approx. $123/night). We found hotel prices in central Vienna to be very expensive, and this was a reasonably priced alternative, close to efficient and cheap transport.

What’s good: Our room (#313) was clean, modern and comfortable, and average size with a desk, lounge chair and clothes hanging space. Room did not face the street. Window opened for fresh air. Breakfast was one of the best quality (not the largest selection though) in a European hotel so far – medium selection of hot dishes, cereals, yoghurts, quality fresh fruit & juices, breads, jams and sweet buns, cold meat and cheeses - lots of organic choices too.

Visitors from North America should be aware it’s common for European hotels to have twin beds pushed together to make a double, with individual duvets (doonas) for each side (including in summer), and no top sheet. There’s also no coffee machine or ice machine. Bedding comfort is a personal thing although we found ours soft with flat pillows (also common in Europe).

Staff had good english, and were polite and efficient.

Minor issues: Wifi whilst free, is one of those annoying ‘collect a voucher only good for 24 hours and re-enter your code each time you use it’ arrangements. Experienced a little noise from the room above, and despite double-glazed windows, noise from the ground floor courtyard is amplified upwards from the city streets, so sleeping with earplugs was required.

Nearby: For great local food (authentic weiner schniztel and good local beer) at reasonable prices, try Gasthaus Nestroy – 2.5 blocks walk left on exiting the hotel, along Weintraubengasse. The area has a large Middle-Eastern population and nearby are pharmacies, a post office (although we found postage costs in Vienna amongst some of the most expensive on out travels so far), a kebab shop and plenty of other stores and cafes along Praterstraße. Note though that most stores and cafes nearb are closed on Sundays. We felt fairly safe walking back to the hotel from the train station up to around 9:30pm, although you’ll see quite a bit of homelessness and alcohol drinkers regularly hanging around outside the Prasterstern train station (like any train station in the world really).

Transport: The very large Praterstern tram/metro station (U-bahn, red line U1) is around 2 blocks/200 metres walk from the hotel and makes this hotel a convenient alternative to expensive inner-city ones. We were able to catch the metro daily into the city and most other tourist places quite easily. A single ticket is EUR 2/person/trip although 24/48/72 hour and longer passes are also available. There is also the S-bahn line for more surburban areas. You can also catch the U1 from Praterstern to Wien Mitte station, and transfer to the S7 for a much cheaper trip to/from the airport than the direct CAT (City Airport Train).

Room Tip: Top floor facing away from the street may be quietest.

Rooms are fantastic, clean, spacious and comfortable. Buttet breakfast is one of the best I've ever had. Hotel staff was polite, professional and extremely considerate. I've stayed with my family and believe the children enjoyed the hotel very much too. The hotel has excellent location, in a quiet street near the city centre and underground station is two minutes walk. There is a perfect garage for cars also. All things considered this is a place that simply invites you to come and stay again once you are in Vienna.

I stayed in the hotel at August 2012 while going by car from Germany to Romania. The hotel is very nice, the reception service is very good and absolutly one of the fastest I've ever had. Nice idea to have artistic bedroom :) I really like the paintings on the wall, they really make me relax. The location is nice even if not in town center (Leopoldstadt). It's very close to the railway station and to the Prater park. So if you want to go there it's the one for you. It's a little noisy by night but it doesn't depend by the hotel (I suppose it's due to the bar on ther corner ... bar or night club ... or whatever it is). The staff is clever and very fast. Take care of parking in the streets, in Wien there's a quite strict parking policy so it's better to pay for the parking service at the hotel than paying a fine. I admit I parked very close to the hotel (but it wasn't weekend so you are allowed to). The breakfast is fine with a lot of different food (continental breakfast). I'm italian so I only tasted a pair of croissants and some juice. The espresso was fine (you know I am italian and in Italy coffee in particular espresso is a sort of religion :) ).

Travel to Vienna quite frequently and Der Wilhelmsdorf ranks among the best Hotel's I've stayed in. Good location, comfortable modern premises, friendly and welcoming staff and reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone.

This hotel is incredible. We had just a standard room, but it was very spacious. There was a large bed, a desk and chair and a table with two seats with plenty of space to swan about in. There was a large wardrobe to hang clothes in and the bathroom was spacious and clean.

The rooms are beautiful. The wall behind our bed was a big fresco painted in red with small metallic areas that changed colour depending on the time of day. When we arrived they looked just like leaf gold, but in the morning they were more silvery and at some points they were coppery. Really beautiful.

The staff are very helpful here, they were friendly and were able to tell you how to get about or where things were.

Breakfast was wonderful. To give you an idea of the range, there was a choice of three different honeys. Continental style breakfast, with coffee or hot water for tea brought to the table (there is a selection of teas in the buffet).

The location was brilliant, you're a five minute walk away from the subway system which is excellent.

I would definitely stay here again.
