“Ideal for the sights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2010

Excellent location; a short walk from "the ring" and easy walking access to the historic centre and public transport for trips further afield.
Very good breakfast.
Rooms comfortable but basic. Hotel does not claim to be up-market but well decorated and newly furnished - great for a city break.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Free tea (wide selection of herbal teas as well) and good coffee available in lounge at all times. Great when you get back from an evening out with friends.

We stayed at the Alpha for 4 nights in December and although the hotel itself is nothing special, it worked out very well for us since we spent our time visiting Vienna and stayed at the hotel only to sleep and have breakfast. We paid 100 EUR per room per night and had breakfast included in the price. Breakfast consisted of around 4 types of ham or salami, cheeses, vegetables, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, bread, yoghurt, seasonal fruit and some sweet pastries. Also included were coffee, tea and juices. Although the variety of items offered was not in itself great, the breakfast was still very good in my opinion.

Rooms were recently decorated and have a modern style although they are not very large and included a safe, TV, desk and ensuite bathroom with a shower cubicle. Rooms were always kept very clean and we never had any problems about noise even though walls are quite thin, so beware of noisy neighbours.

The hotel is located west of the Rathaus building and is close to one of the metro lines, therefore it is well suited to reach any point in Vienna without being in its very centre. The area was always quiet and felt very safe even later in the evenings. The staff at the reception were very polite and helped us with our difficulties.

We stayed at Hotel Alpha for two nights during our 5-week trip to Europe. We were disappointed with the room we had at the hotel as it was very expensive and did not feel like good value for money. The room was very dated, with carpet and furnishings that looked at least 30 years old. The walls were unfortunately so thin that we could hear the couple next door engaging in sexual activities. The charge for internet was outrageous. We are students so do not have extravagant expectations from the hotels we stay in but Hotel Alpha really stood out as a disappointment. The hotel is close to a U-bahn and two supermarkets so those are some positive aspects worth mentioning.

The breakfast was just okay - it had the usual spread of cereals, yoghurts etc and eggs with some sausages.

I spent there 7 nights, but when I first arrived, I had the terrible feeling of being those 7 days bad ones. I expected a big room, with a nice and big bathroom, TV with enjoyable channels, internet...but what I got was a little, very little room, bathroom (also tiny) with a shower only, a little TV with only the BBC and CNN channels in English...and of course, no internet for free (for 7 days it would have cost me 68 euro!!! which is highly expensive - anyway, I found a free wireless, I guess from a nearby house). The breakfast wad good, but not so many choices, the rooms were cleaned every day - I had no problem with it. It's location is good (very close to the City Hall and metro stations), but the Stephansplatz is not that close (I usually used the metro to get there).
I wouldn't go to this hotel and to pay from my own resources, as it was very expensive for what they gave.

Visited Vienna for New Year which is something everyone should do once in their lives. Great central location just behind the Rathaus on a quiet side side street so ideal for City centre sites and Museums Quarter. We were initially given a room on 5th floor which was tiny and was in roof space. Asked to be moved and were given alternative on 3rd Floor which was slightly bigger. Rooms are very clean. Nice shower but bathrooms don't have extractors so consequently don't smell that fresh. Breakfasts are very good with plenty of choice and there is complimentary tea and coffee all day in the lobby. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It's not that cheap but that's probably because it's Vienna. Overall, I would use again because of its location rather than the facilities

We stayed in this pleasant little hotel during a trip visiting Christmas markets in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Poland. It is excellently located, just behind the City Hall where the main Christmas market is, and a 3 minute walk from the Underground station. The price is very reasonable and they have their own parking. However, this parking only takes 6 cars and we were unfortunately too late to be able to reserve both nights. So we had to move our car after one night to a city parking garage, which was a bit of a hassle. So if you take your car to Vienna, make sure you book the parking as early as possible.
The rooms are average size and have clearly been recently updated to look modern and comfortable. There is no luxury but everything you need is there. There is no restaurant on site but breakfast is served in an area behind the reception and had a good choice of foods. The service was pleasant and friendly. WiFi is very expensive.
