“If you don't find this place interesting then you don't understand history.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014 via mobile

Simply cool. There are weapons recovered from the Turks during the 1683 siege of Vienna- among thousands of other items. I was saddened that the WWI exhibit was closed for reorganization. I dearly wanted to see the car of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Even with this disappointment I rank the museum a 5!

“Military History”

For those with an interest in Military History, including amazing paintings, a weapons and flags collection second to none, this is a must! To my mind, better than the UK or French equivalents.

“Away from the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I visited this museum because I was interested, in particular, in finding out more about the Ottoman attempts to take Vienna. It's not the easiest place to find, it's away from the old town and once you get off the tram/underground the signage isn't great. The English-language auto guide brings the exhibits alive, and you get the strong impression that being located in the centre of Europe, with so many neighbouring countries , wasn't a recipe for a peaceful life. The hall at the top of the staircase has fantastic architecture, and would on its own make the visit worthwhile .

“Great military museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

This was a very well-organized museum of military from many periods of time in Austria's history. It's spread out over two floors, but will take a lot of time to get through it if you let it. There are a lot of things to read and look at, with wonderful paintings of the various battles and armor, uniforms, and weapons from each period. Definintely get the headset to listen to throughout the museum unless you speak German. For two people with a headset each, it was 12 Euros; completely worth it.

“Very nice museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

Absolutely fascinating to see the car in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed. The rest of the museum was also well laid out and very interesting.
