Stayed here 3 nights in October. Although not in city centre, the hotel is located close to a U-Bahn station (Johnstrasse on the U3) and within minutes you can be in the city centre. It's also close to Schoenbrunn Palace by walking 15 minutes or by bus. Public transportation is very good in Vienna and we never had to wait more than 5-6 minutes for train.

The room we had was nice and large for 3 people with a large bathroom. Our room was on the 4th floor, facing the street but double-glazing windows shut out any noise. Fixtures were modern and clean; plenty of space for everyone. The toiletries in the bathroom were kind of basic, just soap and packs of shampoo. Best bring your own. Internet access is available for 9 euros a day and they supplied a cable.

Breakfast consisted of cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit, hot drinks, breads, pastries, with good variety and choice. The front desk staff was helpful with suggestions of what to do and where to eat. We picked this hotel for its proximity to U-Bahn and reasonable price. In summary we had a very positive experience and would stay here again.

We spent 3 days in June and we were really disappointed. The quality of the beds is very bad : the kind of stuff with springs that wakes you up when you move. After the first night we decided to leave but the guy threatened us to withdraw from my Visa the 3 days I had reserved. We stayed. We had terrible nights.
Location and breakfasts are roughly OK.

“Good for people on foot, bad for lazy people that come by car”

If you want to come by car, I would suggest using a different hotel. Hotel has a private parking but it can host only 5 cars (forget about parking you car here!). However, there was a public parking garage in the walking distance of the hotel. But, going from the hotel to the garage by car was a bit challenging as the desk clerk did not explain the route well (guess that he did not know), so it took some time to reach the parking. Also the hotel does not have good access for the car to offload as you have to park it temporarily in front of the hotel in the middle of a very busy. If you are on foot or a fan of public transportation, this hotel is ok. A very enthusiastic walker can reach the center in approximately 45minutes. Also, you cannot get lost while walking to the center because you simply go straight downwards from the hotel. There are good connections via public transportation to other parts of the city, which is a plus. The room was very nice, fairly spacious, and extremely clean. The breakfast was good three star breakfast. The hotel looks very new and maintained. They even thigh tech keys (contactless plastic cards) simple swiping the plastic thingy over the door knob will unlock the door.

“Not central but a good reasonable base in Vienna”

Lucia Hotel

We stayed at the Lucia on the last stop of a trip cycling the Danube from Passau to Vienna. Be warned - it's on a bit of a hill which is not great after cycling 85km!
To the north of the centre, the hotel isn't in the greatest area and we were on our guard when we got the tram back late one night. However, the trams are frequent and all was ok.
The hotel itself is very modern inside. Our room was large if souless, and all the fittings were of good quality. The shower was excellent and the whole room was very clean. A key system is used to move between different areas of the hotel so it does mean that if you are not glued to the hip with your partner, make sure you ask for two keys.
The breakfast was pretty good, usual spread of breads, meats and cheeses and the tiny glasses juice.
The staff were very (mainly) helpful, recommending a local restaurant on our first (exhausted) night which was excellent and only a short walk away.
The room numbering is quite odd though, and I think this is due to the layout of the hotel. Despite being modern inside it is obviously a few buildings joined together. We were in room 504 and expecting to be on the fifth or fourth floor - but no. We were on the ground floor, next to some very noisy building works way the other side of the building. If you prefer to be on a higher floor you'd better request this as the room number is certainly no indicator of where you'll end up.
All in all, the Lucia was a reasonable place to stay. A bit souless and in a part of town where there's not much to do (altho it is close to Schonbrun and the Westbahnhof) it's probably a good bet for business travellers or people that have been to Vienna before so don't mind being outside of the Ring (you can walk to the centre quite easily if you don't do trams, in about 30 minutes)
Our main disappointment was that the hotel infers it is bike friendly - it's not. Despite warning that we would be bringing bikes with us (and the hotel even offering bike hire services, not that we saw any evidence of this when we were there) they were not terribly happy with us. We ended up leaving our bikes in the open air staff parking lot, locked to each other (nothing to lock them to, which was worrying) and despite assurances that they would be ok and left alone, they were obviously moved around when the trash disposal people came. We were also watched like hawks by the receptionist when we were first arrived, exhausted and wet from the rain as we tried to lock our bikes up - he was the only unhelpful member of staff and it didn't endear the hotel to us.
To sum up, I probably wouldn't stay there again, but only because there are better places to stay in Vienna that are more central. For the price, it's good, clean and just a tad souless.

“Ok place”

I stayed here for two nights September 2007. The hotel is easy to find just a short stroll from the underground station which has a SPAR on site for any groceries required. The reception desk were friendly and polite. The room a single was as expected for Europe size wise and as is often the case lacking in tea making facilities which would have been very useful. The television in the room was very small though did have a few English speaking channels e.g BBC Prime. There was a safe within the room though this was not working. There is free internet access in the lobby as well as plenty of information on things to do in the City.
The breakfast was standard European buffet fare with ham, cheese, bread etc. For two days this was sufficient though if staying longer perhaps would have been monotonous.
