“One of the best hotel i've been”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

We had been in the Mercure Josefshof in August 2010 with a special price offer from Accor Hotel company. The hotel is exellent located, just few steps from the Ring just behind the Rathaus. The metro stop is also very close. The room was really great, very clean and warm, even if not very big. The buffet breakfast was incredibly various and always full of stuff. The service was also very welcome and helpful. We will be back here for sure when in Wien again.

This hotel is an old fashioned one located in the museum quarter. The position is nice but I think 4 stars for this hotel are too much. Old furnitures, few extra services, people working here were not always kind and helpful. It is clean and cheap compared to Wien average and position. I suggest this hotel just if the price is a priority for you and you like old fashioned hotel.

Our family of 2 adults and 4 kids stayed her for 2 nights just before Christmas in 2011. Newly renovated rooms were lovely and comfortable - possibly the most comfortable hotel rooms on our month long European holiday. Breakfast was exceptional, staff quite friendly but very efficient. The only 'fly in the ointment' was a very cranky lady who appeared to be a supervisor of some sort, rampaging around the breakfast room, reprimanding and upsetting the waitstaff (who were very welcoming and appeared to be doing a good job)and generally creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. Otherwise was a nice property to stay in. Location not ideal for us, though as we found it quite difficult on both nights to find cafe or restaurant that was family friendly and within walking distance of the hotel. Good location for Christmas Markets at Rathaus, however.

I had my family (husband & toddler) with me on a 4-day business trip. We selected the hotel for its location and were pleasantly surprised by the hipness of the local area. We had the Superior room, which was elegantly and recently refurbished. The lobby area was large, with a small bar and a more lavish sitting area for playing around, doing puzzles etc. As it was Winter we could even store some milk on the window sill. The breakfast was way overpriced, but we found a couple of local goodies in the area that were kid firendly:

Brunch: Cafe der Provinz on Maria-Treu-Gasse 3 - which is a "bio" cafe with some of the best pancakes around (you'll need to book ahead on the weekends)

Restaurant: Right around the corner is Il Sesante on Piaristengasse 50, a great Italian restaurant with a huge seating area, so no problems getting a table last minute for us on a Saturday night.

Just down the road from the hotel on Lange Gasse are various supermarkets with good pick up & go breakfast and lunch options.

The combined package of easy to get there by public transport, interesting local area, and easy food options made the rest of the time a treat for my partner who trotted around town sight seeing with the toddler.

The hotel negatives as are spotted elsewhere: wireless is not worth the trouble and only one business computer.

The greatest advantage of the hotel is its location. It's about 2 minutes walk to U-Bahn. Stephanplatz (the main square of Vienna city) is also quite near (about 10-15 minutes walk).
It is a beautiful hotel and cozy. Staying at this hotel you feel like being in Vienna!
The bathroom was spacious and very clean.
The staff was polite and willing to help and give information about Vienna.
The only problem for me was that our room had only one window and you felt a bit claustrophobic if you stayed more than a couple of hours inside the room. If you are a tourist and you only stay at the hotel for a while and you spend your time outside it won't be such a problem. But if you are going for vacation and relaxing you would probably prefer a room with a balcony (or even a hotel outside the city center!!!).
Another thing I noticed was that the room was very warm even though we didn't turn on the heat. I traveled on December so that was a pleasant surprise but I don't know what happens on summer.
As for the hotel's breakfast I have nothing to say because I didn't try it, and I didn't even looked at it.
Generally, I would stay again at the hotel and I am satisfied.

Room Tip: If you travel for vacation or tend to stay several days ask for a room with a balcony.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and I really liked my trip as a whole. But about this hotel; you should know that it is very well situated. you can get acces to U-Bahn and 2 tram lines and also the city center is in 10 minute walk from the hotel. You may not even need to use the public transport if you just want to visit the city center. The hotel is in a quiet small street and you can get a very calm sleep there. The bathtub was a gift for me after a long day in city but most of other furniture in the room was a bit old. (the phone was not very good although I just tried to use it for wake up call which I couldn't get to set up, the TV set was a bit tricky, I did not check the minibar because it was sealed by a paper wrap and I thought if I open that they will charge me a lot!) I do not know if it was because of the german-austrian culture of being serious or not, but I find hotel communication a little harsh. I was in a non-smoking room and it was a big card on my desk saying that if you smoke in your room you will get fined for 200€ (also the example of minibar). I did not take breakfast there since it was 15€ and I find it really expensive specially in Vienna where you can eat a very good meal for 10 €.
