“Taste of Austria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed here in the end of August and we were looking for a place close to downtown but off the beaten path. This place near the train is just a stops near the center of town. Charming little garden and a cool looking wine cellar. The moment we walked in the manager was so pleasant he really made us feel so relaxed. If your lucky he may offer you a glass of Austrain wine : ) We wound up purchasing some bottles to take to Switzerland before we left. We had such a great time in Austria and especially talking to the manager who also gave us great travel tips and recommended a small town for us to visit on our way to Venice after going to Switzerland by train. If you don't expect fancy chandeliers and marble floor this place is a gem and really a must stay if visiting Austria for that local charm. Thank you so much for making our visit to Austria so memorable. Also forgot to mention that the breakfast there was wonderful!! Thank you and hope to come again.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2012. The thing that really struck us about it was the style of the place. It's like stepping back in time but in a good way; it's clean, functional and comfortable as well as being fantastically stylish.
The staff are very helpful with everything, although we were told that Hunderwasserhaus and Kunsthaus Wien were the same place which they are not. The man (yes, singular) who works at the breakfast is excellent and always rushing around and somehow keeping it going offering you a hot drink when you arrive. The breakfast itself is good although as it does seem to be just one member of staff so he sometimes struggles to keep it well stocked when it gets busy.
The rooms are quite large and in the same old style. They have a garden which is a really nice place to sit in the evenings with a drink.
We were able to use the internet on their computer in the reception area free of charge at any time of day even after we'd officially checked out, and were able to leave our bags in their luggage room all day on the day of check out as our train wasn't until the evening.
The location is very convenient if you're prepared to use the U-Bahn. This is the underground train network in Vienna and is generally excellent. Gumpendorfer Strasse station is literally 30 seconds walk from the hotel's front door and you can use the U-Bahn to get from here to virtually any part of the city, including the main train stations of Meidling, Sudbahnhof and Westbahnhof. The hotel is also around 10 minutes walk (almost all of which is along one road) from Westbahnhof with connections to Munich, Salzburg and other destinations west of Vienna.
It''s a classy hotel in which we enjoyed staying and would stay here again should we visit Vienna again.

Despite being located on a rather ordinary street, the hotel opens up into quite a find. There is a garden, lit up so attractively at night and with comfortable seating within a green and verdant area. Great for those beers after a day's sightseeing and the staff are so accomodating, providing coffee during the later evening as well as wine and beer.
Single room was comfortable with two windows looking down onto garden area. All most welcome as a single female traveller; in some hotels the single rooms or double rooms for single use are "round the back." Bathroom was clean with good hot shower.
The staff really made this place a home from home. At reception great information re travel into the city centre e.g. buses which go direct to the ring (57A) and metro into the centre with one change. Well worth being outside the centre to stay at such a pleasant and homely hotel.
Breakfasts fine - usual fare and good coffee. The standard of the coffee can rate a hotel as far as I'm concerned and coffee here was strong and hot.
Was really pleased to have chosen this hotel in Vienna; serenity at the end of the day.

Room Tip: Was allocated a small single room with two windows looking down onto garden area. Perfect for more m...

Been there 2 nights in July 2012. The hotel is located outside from the old city, but it can be easily reached by bus ride or subway. Subway line is 50 meters from hotel, but the subway line there not passing via center of city.
Bus was a great ride: 15-20 minutes and you close to Opera. Bus stop is aside from the subway station.
Rooms are big and have charm. Clean. Wi-fi was in the lobby only, to oget signal to room on 2 floor was impossible.
Breakfast was included. Good touch to start the day.
Best part is a reception stuff. Guy from reception solved all issues we had. Very good job

The hotel is quite unique being decorated in an old fashioned style that really gives you a taste of what life in Vienna used to be like. I've rated each key point separately on a 1-10 scale and explained my thoughts:
-Location: 9/10
The hotel is located in the center of Vienna, at about 5-10 minutes walking distance from Mariahilfer Str.. There's also a subway station at 2 minutes walking distance so you can get pretty much anywhere very easily.
-Accommodation: 9.5/10
As soon as you walk into the hotel you will be very pleasantly surprised by the old fashioned but very stylish interior design and decorations. Rooms are very spacious and clean and each of them is somewhat unique being decorated with genuine antiquities that really give the place a great vintage feeling. If you like experiencing cities with tradition as they once were you are going to love this place. Bathrooms are very clean and well equipped with everything you need. Also there is free wireless internet both in the lobby and the rooms.
The hotel also has a small interior yard with a beautiful garden where you can relax and enjoy a beer or a glass of wine.
-Staff: 10/10
The hotel staff is simply great. The manager is a very open and friendly guy that will gladly help you with anything you need, give you advice regarding tourist objectives, restaurants, bars and anything else you might need. If you somehow do manage to ask him something he doesn't know he will gladly look it up online for you (or you can use the computer in the lobby to do it yourself). He speaks english, german, french, italian and romanian and usually handles the reception. The other receptionists are very open and helpful as well and from what i've seen speak at least 3 languages (english, german and french). Overall very professional yet very friendly staff that won't disappoint you.

The hotel provided what its name suggests. The decoration and furniture were old fashioned and stylish. The hotel seemed to be run by a family, which gave it an extra friendly touch. We were very warmly welcomed. Breakfast was good. As someone already noted here, they are very eager to fill you with information about Austrian wines.

The hotel is outside the Gürtel which means that travel to city centre will take some time even if there are metro and bus stops near by. The wireless did not work in the rooms. In any case, the hotel provided really good value for money.
