“Super location, staff and breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

The Capricorno is an excellent newly renovated hotel in Wien. The renovation has updated the bathrooms and the color scheme in the rooms is modern. The shower worked well and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The staff is very helpful and kind.
The breakfast is great, several kinds of tea, coffee and juices, any kind of egg dish, made to order and served on just a few minutes. The breakfast room is small and at 9 am it is quite crowded.
Afternoon tea, coffee and something sweet is served in the breakfast room at no cost.
Many rooms have their own balcony.
The location is great: it's just a few steps from the U-bahn, tram stop and a 10 minute walk to The Stephans Dome. Many nice restaurants nearby.
The area is absolutely safe, but there's a lot of locals of all ages meeting. Someone could find it noisy, although with windows closed one hears nothing.
Towels and sheets are changed every day, which I find unnecessary.

Dear HeS55,

Thank you for your nice review. We are delighted to read about your experience and thank you very much for your compliments.

As you wrote after completely renovating our Hotel Capricorno, we also opted for a new additional offer: tea and coffee with cake in the afternoon hours in our breakfast room. We are glad that you took advantage of this offer and enjoyed it.

We informed our housekeeping department regarding the towel and sheets change, which usually is not daily, unless requested by the guest himself. Thank you for steering our attention to this important matter.

We hope to welcome you back in Vienna and send you, our best regards.

This hotel was always good value, and, in Schwedenplatz very convenient for the main sights of the city. Schwedenplatz itself is busy and not the most elegant part of Vienna, but the hotel rooms are quiet and well equipped. The new bathrooms have a good feeling and are spacious. Breakfast is a fairly standard Austrian buffet, the waitresses a little pushed at times (the breakfast room has a good view but can become crowded) but always friendly and helpful. Definitely one to visit again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quietest but have a poorer view.

A pleasant hotel at a reasonable price. The rooms are comfortable, but a bit noisy if you have the windows open, as the hotel faces the Ringstrasse. Excellent breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. Only about two minutes walk from the U-barn on the U-1 line, which is very convenient if you are working at the Vienna International Centre. Be aware that there is no 'in hotel' restaurant, but there are a wide variety within a few minutes walk, with Stephansplatz only about a ten minute walk away.

Dear Mike_Thorne,

We thank you for informing us about your experience at our Hotel Capricorno and noticed your remarks.

As you wrote, the hotel is located on Schwedenplatz and it can become a bit loud in the room, by keeping the windows opened at night. Please be informed that all our rooms offer an air-conditioning system and thus a silent cooling is guaranteed.

We do offer an extensive breakfast buffet with a wide range of fresh and local specialities. A restaurant for lunch or dinner is not available on site, but as you described there are many options in the surroundings. For example our Restaurant Stefanie, just a few minutes walk away.

We would be pleased to welcome you back in future and send our best regards to Auckland.

I can be very fussy when choosing Hotels, especially for a city break, but we stayed at Hotel Capricorno early in March just after the renovation and it ticked all the boxes for me!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had an excellent tip for local authentic restaurant.
The location was perfect, handy for underground, airport, trams and also walking.
Plenty of places locally to eat and drink.
The room had every convenience you could wish for, including tablet; choice of pillows; tea and coffee facilities for us Brits; great shower; plenty of room space; water and mini-bar etc.
You could control your heating and air-conditioning, so I think it would be fine during a hot summer.
The Breakfast selection was overwhelming, I have never seen such a selection of Pastries/Cheeses/Hams etc etc - I know I overate everyday because it was so delicious.
In short, if I revisit Vienna this would be my first choice. Thank you to all the staff.

Room Tip: We had a room with a balcony, which was great even though it was cold, as I loved to get a feel for...

We stayed three nights at Hotel Capricorno: the hotel is in Schwedenplatz and it's an excellent choise if you want to visit Vienna.
The bus stop from/to airport is at about 100 m, the old town (Stephansplatz) is at 5 min walk, metro station (U1 and U4), tram 1 and 2 stop (to go around the ring road) just outside the hotel. A wide choice of restaurants is available within walking distance (including famous Figlmuller with its giant wiener schnitzels).
The hotel rooms, although not very large, have just been fully renovated with a pleasant decor, elegant forniture and new modern bathrooms, tv with international channels, free tablet with free internet access, very confortable beds. The room temperature can be fully controlled.
Although on a busy street, the rooms are very well isolated from traffic noise and are very quite.
Excellent breakfast buffet (eggs, fried, boiled, scrambled, omelette, are available on request).
As for the rooms, our suggestion, when booking a double matrimonial room, is to ask for one with double beds.
Rooms with double beds have the standard appearance of a double room: two coupled single beds with one single lower sheet covering the two matresses and two separate upper duvets, two bed tables and two reading lights.
Rooms with just one matrimonial bed do not have split matresses but the bed is smaller and it is right against the wall on three sides, so the person sleeping on the side of the bed against the wall has no way to step out as long the other bed occupant is laying in bed. In addition there is only one bed table and one reading light, and all these things make one think that the room rather than double is thought for single use.
So, having tried both rooms, our suggestion is, unless you prefer a smaller matrimonial bed offering a closer intimacy and one of the partner does not have the habit to go to the toilet during the night, to ask for a double with two beds when making reservation.
The staff at the reception is extremely kind and helpful.
Definitely an hotel we recommend when staying in Vienna.
Giambattista and Carlo

Room Tip: when booking a double matrimonial room, ask for one with double beds (see review for details)

We have just returned from a stay at the Hotel Capricorno in Vienna, and couldn't be happier with our choice of hotel. The hotel has just re-opened after being refurbished, and the management have done a very good job of it. Here are the reasons why we loved the hotel.

Location: The hotel has an excellent location in the centre of Vienna. It overlooks the Danube canal, and is just a couple of steps away from a central metro station, which connects you to the rest of the city. In the evening, we could easily walk to the nearby bars and restaurants, or just go for a stroll on the Danube canal.

Rooms: Even though the hotel is situated in a busy street, the windows and balcony door had double-glazing so the noise from the traffic did not disturb us at all. The rooms are new, comfortable and fresh, a sort of boutique style. They are a good size, and are equipped with everything one could possibly need and more. The beds are super comfortable and the hotel offers a service wherein one can opt for different pillows if the standard ones in the rooms are not to one's liking. They also offer complementary tea and coffee making facilities. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Danube canal, (Room 210) which I do recommend as it is a nice view and the balcony is a very good size as well. The hotel offers complementary WIFI throughout the hotel, including the rooms, which we found very useful.

Hotel: The hotel looks fresh and is kept immaculately clean, as are the rooms. The breakfast on offer was very good and constantly replenished to make sure nothing runs out. The breakfast room is a very good size and we always found somewhere to sit comfortably.

Service: The staff at the hotel are the most welcoming and pleasant staff I have ever met on my travels. Nothing is too much for them and they all go out of their way to help you, from the chambermaids, to the reception staff, right through to the breakfast room staff. They made our stay that much more enjoyable and we were treated very well. ALL the staff are an asset to the hotel and we'd like to thank all of them, especially Ms. D. Bolante and Mr M. Bicer who always took the time to greet guests whilst doing a sterling job. We asked if it was possible to have some gluten-free items for breakfast as one of us is gluten-intolerent and the staff made sure they had a good selection in stock before our arrival.

All in all I'd definitely visit this hotel should I visit Vienna as well and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends and family. It was very good value for money. We could not ask for anything else - it is an excellent hotel in all aspects. Thank you Capricorno Hotel for an excellent stay and thank you for making our trip to Vienna that much more perfect.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Danube canal, especially those with a balcony.
