“A romantic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2005

We stayed for 4 nights at the Regina Hotel. The hotel is over 100 years old but very nicely maintained, rooms were very clean and with a very chic décor which reminds the glamour of the old Vienna. We were lucky, because we asked for a room overlooking the Votivkirche and we got it! We found very romantic sleeping on a cosy, very comfortable bed with such a luxury view. Bathroom was very small, though very clean, but I guess it is due to the age of the building. The breakfast was fabulous, sumptuous, with a lot of pastries that you wouldn’t want to miss.
The front office staff was very kind (you have to expect they don’t smile that much), specially Barbara, who was always very kind and friendly.
This hotel is perfect, because of its location near the city centre, and you can walk almost everywhere. The U-bahn station is 50 m and you have main attractions, such as the Rathaus, the Hofburg Theatre, the café Landtmann, about 100m .
We surely would stay there again, so we definitely recommend for those who are looking for a charming hotel in a charming city.

Booked this hotel on strength of other reviews, but was really disappointed with the hotel. The room was tiny and needed a good paint and update, as too did the rest of the hotel. Definately not attaining its four star reputation.

The location was good, next to the Votivkirche and about 15 mins walk into the town centre.

The hotel staff were friendly though and the breakfast was good, the usual pastries, meat and fruit.

We booked this hotel onlinen for a weekend trip to Austria (one night in Vienna and 2 in Salzburg) - we got it for a very good price on one of the usual ''deals' websites and thought that it would not be too bad, and that it had positive reviews.

From using TripAdvisor and seeing comments on hotels that we have stayed in, I think there are three sorts of people: Those who want 6 star service for nothing; those who would sleep in a shed to save a penny and the vast majority - those seeking value for money. The lure of the megahotels, with the soaring hallways, black-clad staff straight from a Vogue catalogue and the oozing of wealth is all very nice till the room is not a patch on the rest of the hotel (unless you have a suite) and you are paying a LOT...for what??? Nice paint in the hallways, the click of the heels on marble in the foyer? As you don't sleep in the foyer, lets look at the nitty gritty of hoteling.

If you are in a place to see the sights, suck every minutes worth out of the experience and see as much as possible, the hotel is somewhere that allows a safe, peaceful nights sleep and is a great bonus if you can be fed and watered and for a fair price. This hotel hits the mark precisely.

Negatives (they didn't bother us but better to lay it out onthe table) - the staff aren't the usual sycophantic models and are fairly gruff, however, not impolite or rude but 'shop attendant' like - we did not have a problem at all and thought they were fine - they won't win any prizes for gleaming coture but then they aren't busy preening themselves and thinking its a chore to serve you.

The rooms are average - small tv, oldish decor, wierd padded doors (yes!)...but who cares! The bed is very very comfortable; it was very very clean and the bathroom was excellent - I am not sure what the other reviewer was talking about with the shower/bath but we did not have any issues on that front - massive amount of hot water and at a high pressure - ideal to soak away a 12 hour marathon around Vienna.

Postives: This is exceptional value for money! The location is great and very close to a U bahn station that will get you all around Vienna with connections only a few stops away. At night, the adjacent church (currently has hoarding around the lower levels) is spectacular and lit from within - get a photo! But the absolute best part is the breakfast...I am not kidding when I say that you will make yourself sick trying to shovel it in...the small breakfast room of another review was taken up by three very large tables of every fruit, meat, bread, drink (juices, teas, coffees) and cereals that you could imagine...and yes, there were hot items too! The main seating area is in the next room which opens out onto the patio area where you can sit outside if you want (not to seem too critical of other reviewers but seriously, it is outside - it is a city..of course there will be birds!! Like every other city in the world...sit inside (but still massive windows to take in the morning sun and the trams and voila, problem solved!)

For people who want an overpriced load of nonsense where the money has been spent on the public areas, go to the other name chains (you know who they are)...for an exceptional value for money hotel with the best breakfast I have ever had in my life in a hotel, then you cannot pass this. Throw in the online discounts and I cannot think what more you could want.

We would stay there again without a second's doubt.

The Best Western Millenium mistakenly booked the wrong dates for my stay in Vienna. They were gracious enough to find us a great hotel .
The Hotel Regina is a Family run hotel chain called Kremslehner Hotels. email:--------. It is decorated in old world decor. It was wonderful! They have been in business since 1896. The breakfast that was served was very nicely done with the capability of eating inside or out. It was very quaint, and the food was above the average continental breakfast.
It is located one block from the metro station, tram stops and right next to the Votivkirch (Thanksgiving Church) (tour highlight). The walking distance to the art museum is about three blocks. The location is close to everything and walkable.
I lucked out ! I would reccomend this hotel to anyone! Everyone was very accomodating!

Nice location, good services, old-fashioned atmosphere. Porters speak no English at all and rooms are below average for a 4-star hotel.

Breakfast room is very, very small, so most of the people will have to eat outside: there many small birds and pigeons are constantly trying to get to your plate to eat your food, and, no doubt, to spread salmonella or other diseases; clearly a health risk here.

Bathtubs very small and dangerously slippery. It is almost impossible to take a shower without sitting down at the tiny tub.
