“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

My Partner and I stayed here whilst backpacking around europe in January, Loved the Hotel, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I wouldnt say the hotel is in the best location but it isnt far by tram or train into the city. Rooms were clean, Kitchen was clean and inviting. We had breakfast one morning which was fine.. go early though as it does get very busy :)

Hope this helps!

On choosing this hotel at first I only choose it for its location for a two day meeting I was attending as it was a two minute walk away. The price also drew my attention as the rates were quite good for hotels in Vienna, due to this I did not go into this hotel with any expectations as I am generally let down. Not this time, from the moment I walked in the door of what I think is a brand new building I had a good feeling. The staff were so pleasant cheerful and happy and I got a great modern vibe from the hotel. When I entered my room I was even more pleasantly surprised as the were very spacious, very clean and the room quite litterly made me feel happy if that makes sense. There are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms but who needs them in Vienna there are so many nice outdoor cafes to choose from and there is all you can drink down at the breakfast buffet which was only €5.90 extra per day (continental no hot food but with portions the portions of food that is served in restaurants this also is sufficient). There just is no fuss, just a nice room with a nice bed and sofa to rest your feet after a day of touring around the city.I will certainly be recommending this hotel to anyone I know going to Vienna, in fact I have already convinced people to go to this beautiful city and to stay in this hotel. The one thing I can recommend is for people arriving by train into the city trying to get to the hotel, from the airport you will come into Wien Mitte, change here for the U4 line this will bring you to Schottenring the nearest station to the hotel, you now have to take the lift to U2 and find signs for Hermingresse which are down along the U2 platform, I cannot quite remember the exact directions but you do need to get to the other side of the canal by the underground to get onto the street where the hotel is located, maybe this could be explained better on the hotel's website for visitors arriving from the Airport. When arriving in U4 this was the only way to get to the other side of the road without having to walk for a long way up the road and then walking all the way back again when it was just across the road (with a lot of luggage this was hard work figuring out but with very helpful directions from some locals I got there in the end). The other big bonus to this hotel was that it was not in the middle of all the hussle and bussle, after you have enjoyed a day/night in the city you can go back to guaranteed peace a quiet in this hotel, I stayed here for 3 nights and not on any of these nights did I hear a siren, or noise from other rooms upstairs or either side of me.Overall I have to say this is an excellent hotel, I hate using the word budget as it always seems to give people bad thoughts and I don't want to paint that picture of this hotel as you have to see it to believe the quality it serves, affordable quality hotel sums it up about right, I will be returning.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back of the hotel, so I guess this is a good place as I had 3 excellent nights s...

Wow! This budget hotel is most extraordinary! I booked early and paid only EUR 36 per night and the value was just amazing: spacious two-bed room (single use) with desk, suitcase-rest, closet, sofa and own bathroom (hair-dryer provided). Free wireless and austrian TV (some international satellite channels like CNN and Aljazeera). There's even a kitchen downstairs one could use (shared with all other residents).

About the location: Okay, these backstreets do not over any special flair, but there's low traffic and the windows will shield any car sounds away from you sleep. Nice restaurants and a bar are right around the corner in "Große Kirchgasse" which leads to the subway station "U2 Taborstraße" which is only a 5 min walk. There you will find a supermarket, bank ATMs a plenty and a McDonalds/McCafe open until late. Subway transport to all tourist sites is about 10 minutes with trains going every 5 minutes.

The nasty bits: Meininger Hotels are proud to host school classes on field trip. There were none during my stay, but this might be a drawback during your stay as walls are cardboard thin.
Also, due to safety considerations and enforcing the strict no-smoking policy, windows can only be tilted, but not opened. Might be kinda hot in the summer as there is no climate control.

Overall this is a good hotel for an overnight stay but certainly not to relax. We got room number 109 which is very noisy - opposite the room is the staircase and corridor to other rooms, every moment you hear knocking the corridor door. Rooms are spacious and modern with free WiFi. Staff is friendly. But the bar was disappointing - almost nothing offered.
Overall hotel inside looks nice and clean, but we will not go back due to noise outside room 109.

The hotel is excellent value for money. Reception staff were friendly, check-in and check-out were very speedy. We stayed in a double room which was rather basic, however had comfortable beds and a good shower and was very clean. Free WiFi was available.
Breakfast costs 6 Euros per person for a very basic buffet style breakfast. Choice of bread, fruit, cereal was rather limited and no cooked breakfast options were available. Most cafes/bars/restaurants and bakeries in Vienna offer much nicer breakfasts in a similar price range, including a choice of typical Austrian breads and coffees.
I recommend staying in this hotel for convenient, clean budget accommodation close to the city centre, however I do not recommend to book breakfast there.

For one night only i have stayed with family here.
Clean rooms, good shower, plenty of hot water at all times, top floor is really quiet and we had a good sleep experience all four.
Breakfats was nice, has all you need for a Central and east European ( if you are from UK keep in mind there are no hot options at all, no sausages, omellete, beans or mushrooms) so was fine for me !
Reception is helpfull, when they are there, maybe a little bell will be helpfull.
Restaurant could have been cleaner, we arrived very early for breakfast 07 am and first impression was not the best regarding cleanliness, but after, around 8, was all ok. (official opening time for breakfats though was 06:30).
Will be back and reccomend too as it is a good value for money.

You get the 3 hotel essentials - cleanliness, polite staff and reasonable price. But, there is nothing to sweep you off your feet. On the other hand, there isn't a single thing that you could point out as a flaw; the hotel is simply very good and that's it.
General tip: no more collecting parking tickets around Vienna - the City passed a new law that enables the traffic police to block your car if you are a foreigner who has collected more than 1 ticket in quick succession.
