“Excellent value, if you really want the 1st district”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

As I’ve mentioned in a previous review, the best deals in Vienna are to be had outside of the 1st district, the touristy centre of town where all the sites are. However, if you really do want to stay in the 1st, the Hotel Europa is definitely good value. The location is unbeatable, right on the main shopping street near all the sites. Our room was getting a bit tired, with parts of the carpet fraying and visible wear and tear on the fittings, but everything worked fine so no real complaints - except for the internet which, like with the other reviewers, did not work for us. Yes, the cafes and commotion outside can get a bit noisy, but it really doesn’t last until late; everything shuts down at about 22.00.

If you’re after the ultimate Vienna experience, e.g. it is your honeymoon, I would still go for one of the traditional five stars, simply because the Hotel Europa is modern and doesn’t have the same kind of grandeur. But if you really want to stay in the 1st district at a reasonable price, this hotel is a good choice. Just don't bank on the internet service.

The breakfast buffet is very good but it is expensive – hotels in Austria have generally cottoned on that this is a good way to make money, so it is getting more and more difficult to get a rate with breakfast included. If you are fine with ham, a croissant, and coffee, you can forget breakfast in the hotel and eat at one of the surrounding cafes.

One more tip, since I used to lived in Vienna (and since I see some other reviewers had this issue) – you really don't need to rent a car as a tourist in Vienna, but I had business reasons I needed to do so this time around, giving rise to the obvious parking issues. The hotel has valet parking which is a shocking EUR 30 or so, but there is no need for this – street parking is free after 22.00 and on the weekends, so as long as you come back late on the weekdays you can find parking (going around the block a couple of times should do it).

Stayed here for one night while in Vienna on business. This hotel is in an excellent location, just behind the Kartner Str. and within a few minutes of all the central Vienna amenities and sites. Easy reach from the airport and Wien Mitte. The breakfast was excellent, although a bit pricey (we were told at check-in it was included in the price only to be surprised by the charge). Rooms were decent, simple and clean, nothing amazing but good enough (although the comfort rooms could use a bit of a make-over).

This is a hotel in the centre of Vienna's shopping street. The reception and service are very good. We drove with our car, and they parked it for us, that is expensive, 32 euros a day.
The rooms are nice, internet did work. We also had the executive lounge to have snacks and coffee at. A very nice experience. The only thing is, that the breakfast is not worth 20 euros per person. It was a poor selection, not many warm dishes at all.

Room Tip: Eat breakfast somewhere else!

A very nice hotel in the centre of Vienna. Great rooms with all the facilities for the business traveller. Breakfast buffet really good and staff friendly and helpful. Will return. Free Wifi is great as some hotels try to charge for this.

What an excellent location in central Vienna, just a few minutes stroll to all the interesting central sites via traffic free streets. Check in is most efficient and we were offered an upgrade to an executive room. Well worth it!! This gives access to the "executive lounge" with complementary snacks and drinks all day - also, a pleasant area to recharge before looking at the next sites. Rooms are large, cool and clean with high quality bathrooms. The hotel power breakfast is 20 Euros a person, but cheaper alternatives are very close by - try the breakfast at the nearby State Opera House.
I can offer no more praise then to say we would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel when we next visit Vienna.

Thank you Hotel Europa

Room Tip: An upgrade to an executive room is well worth it.

This hotel has a great location. The room was clean and comfortable. Our room has a good view. But WiFi didn't work inside the room. It was a great problem for me... I've stayed in this hotel twice before and they haven't solved this problem yet
