“Loved the torte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Liked this one better than the sacher torte. Denser chocolate and a moister rich cake with some marzipan under the chocolate icing.

Also best hot chocolate I had in austria. Super rich and creamy with a heavy hand of high quality chocolate.

Expensive food but it looked good, we didnt eat . just had desert and coffee.

“Fabulous for lunch or just people watching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

This place is a bit pricey indeed but it's on such a lovely boulevard it's well worth it. Grab a coffee and people watch or have lunch. I had the eggs and bread dumplings which were fabulous and the schnitzel was so delicious.

The service is perfect and the whole place just reeks of class and sophistication. Would definitely go again!

“Elegantly Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Whilst searching for places to have cakes in Vienna, the stories about this 'imperial torte' became too hard to ignore. So we we decided we'll have breakfast at the cafe, then have the cake as a dessert (why not?). The interior of the cafe is beautiful - it actually looked exactly like the photos we'd seen and the decors were just spectacular. The food...the food was average. Obviously looks nice for the prices they cost, but 30euros for a platter of cold cuts and cheese? Not convinced. The imperial torte wasn't amazing either. It's hard to eat with just a fork, due to the chocolate casing and the marzipan. This made it more like a block than a cake.
The service was so-so, could have been a little more attentive as it was hard to catch a waiter for anything.

“Wonderful torte, better than Sacher”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

Came here for a coffee and to try the "Imperial Torte", recommended by friends. It didn't disappoint. Thin layers of cake and flaky chocolate, topped with a layer of marzipan and then rich chocolate icing -- superb -- and much more interesting than Sacher torte. The coffee was excellent too. A bit more pricey than we expected, but probably because we sat outside (under the awning), which added to the experience.

“Living on the glory of the past”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We went to The Imperial following our tour operator's recommendation. There was no ambiance, the service was slow and the cake and coffee average. Go to Cafe Mozart, or Hotel Sacher instead. They are atmospheric, the coffee great and cake top notch and the service first rate. Sorry Imperial.
