“The best of the Vienna cafes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

There are many good and interesting cafes in Vienna, but after a recent 4-day visit, we felt that Cafe Central is the 'leader of the pack'....in terms of atmosphere, decor, buzz, and range of offering. We only had afternoon coffee and pastries....so we can't comment on the dinner offering, but we do know that this would be the first cafe we go back to on our next visit to Vienna.

“Pleasant atmosphere, excellent service and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Came here for dinner and was not disappointed. Started with pumpkin cream soup which was delicious (although seemed a bit cheap to not include a bread roll), then the traditional wiener schnitzel which was huge and well cooked. Came with delicious potatoes and added a fresh salad as a side. Followed it up with a Sacher Torte which was delicious and fresh, with a great selection of alternatives. All the time the staff provided impeccable service, communicating in English when one's clumsy German isn't adequate (and menus are in German and English). Atmosphere was added by a pianist, something I don't usually appreciate as it adds noise when having a conversation, but he was creative and colourful (and under-appreciated).

Would definitely go again.

“Up to its reputation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012 via mobile

We went there on our first night in vienna and it was a great introductory to the austrian cuisine. One small setback the waiters: Very arrogant and quite rude.

“Old world luxury cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Come to Vienna, have to visit Cafe Central, and feel the old world luxury life and cafe culture. It's two blocks away from Hofburg palace.
People always complain about the rude waiters and terrible service, I don't agree to it, we had good time there, great cakes and tea/coffee.
The only thing, there are so many tourists rush in and rush out, it's not really relaxing, but it's fun to watch people too!
