I prefer my hotels to be nice-looking though I realize that I basically only sleep and shower in it. The Ibis Wien fits the description. It has a neat and modern style lobby with snack and drink vending machines. The elevator is big. The room was neat and clean and the view from the window was rather nice (see the photo). The bathroom lacked space a little (especially the shower cabin) but was satisfying. TV was small, but it had channels in English, French, Spanish and Russian.
In short, it was pleasant to get there after a day of sight-seeing. There was no coffee-maker in a room but the web-site claims you can get it downstairs 24 hours.
The location on Gurtel is excellent: walking distance from shopping on Mariahilfer Strasse and all transport at West Bahnhof (trains, trams, buses). It's probably a couple of miles from Old Town.
I did not really interacted with the staff much, but they were nice and there was no problem with the reservation, late check-in or check-out. I guess 70 euros a night is fair considering there was nothing below 50.
Do not be afraid to have a window looking at the Gurtel. It's not noisy and on the higher floor...
