“Be Wary of this Hotel's Strict Cancellation Policy and Customer Service!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

My wife and I were scheduled to spend several nights at this hotel, flying from Zürich to Vienna. Unfortunately, prior to our trip from Zürich, my wife was stricken with a heart attack. I cancelled our reservation SIX days prior to our arrival, only to be advised that a SEVEN day cancellation was the policy of the hotel. I might have been able to meet that requirement, but I was with my wife in an intensive care unit of a hospital in Zürich. My wife's doctors prohibited her from flying; Swiss Air prohibits a cardiac victim from flying for three weeks. This Vienna hotel just takes your money! Terrible customer service in my efforts to resolve this. I am a veteran Trip Advisor reviewer with an even-tempered, if not liberal attitude of such situations. My advice: if you book here, book through a agency with cancellation options.

This Hotel has a lot of potential. It has a great location, friendly and helpful staff the room was ok. If they would take of the black mold on the ceiling, take care of the peeling paint and wallpaper, steam clean the carpets, and get new towels I could rate it higher. This hotel is located next to a few night clubs and bars. There was construction that started at 7am and lasted until 7pm. We could here the conversation in the both rooms on either side of us.

Older hotel just blocks from the heart of Vienna and a short walk to the subway. Also, there's a very convenient airport shuttle pick-up near the subway -- much cheaper than taking a taxi. With nightclubs nearby, be prepared to use earplugs. Breakfast buffet was above-average with plenty of variety...even champaign and chocolate! We spent 3 nights here - while the hotel wasn't necessarily memorable, we were pleased with our stay. many restaurants in a short walking distance.

Breakfast unappetising, food recycled, staff untrained
Otherwise ok for a short stay of 1 to 3 nights. Day and nightstaff hospitable and helpful. Rather noisy from 6:30 to 6 in evening due to building and renovations adjacent to hotel. Some sleazy nightclubs across the way from the hotel entrance

We stayed at Hotel Schweizerhof for 5 nights in June. I was worried when I read some of the other TripAdvisor reviews about the noise and the smallness of the rooms and/or bathroom but we decided to go with it anyway based on Rick Steve's review and the price compared to other Vienna hotels. We were very lucky with our room assignment. It was a corner room (508, I think) and it was huge with windows on two walls and therefore great cross ventelation. Yes, the bathroom is tiny, but we don't travel for the bathroom and it had what was needed (toilet, sink, shower) and was clean so we didn't really care.

There is no air conditioning but we did have fans and, as mentioned above, our room had the cross-ventelation.

We did not find it to be noisy from people leaving the bars late at night but we did find it noisy in the early morning from the nearby construction. You can't blame the hotel for this, but if that is going to be a problem for you then maybe don't stay here until that construction is done.

We found the hotel very convienently located to trams if you didn't want to walk, to the airport bus, to walk to many locations in the city. There were also a number of great restuarants within a couple of blocks (particularly Salzamt right out the door, left at the corner and up the steps).

Imagine wanting to enjoy your European trip, but then you can't sleep at night, so you end up being tired the whole time. People were outside with jackhammers at the crack of dawn every morning. Other noises at night too. Food was decent, though. This place was way too small. Bathrooms are so tiny that you can barely turn around. Decorations were outdated.

The location is absolutely fabulous. Good food and train station is within walking distance. The cathedral is also within walking distance, along with more shopping that you can do in a few days. This is only a good place to stay for a few days. Any longer than that and you'll be tired from all the noise at night and cramped by the lack of spaciousness.

Room Tip: Try to get a larger room or you'll be cramped. Also, GET AWAY FROM WINDOWS IF POSSIBLE, or you...

We stayed at Hotel Schweizerhof with a Rick Steve's tour. Our guide book boasted about large rooms, but ours was tiny. Inside it was so hot, almost 90 degrees. Interesting, the lobby and breakfast area WERE air-conditioned, but not the rooms. On our first night, we noticed bugs crawling up the wall by our bed, so we moved to another room, a larger one, but just as hot. The bathrooms were TINY. 6 inches separated the toilet from the wall. The room was clean, but a sewer smell emanated from the bathroom. A new high-rise was going up right outside our window so the noise from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM was horrible. The location was excellent as was the breakfast.
