“Pricey but good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

I've stayed at a lot of Mercure hotels and only started staying here after service went downhill at the Mercure Josefhof. The staff are much friendlier at this Mercure hotel but it is out of date and in need of a thorough refurbishment, the nightly rate really doesn't justify the condition of both the public spaces and the rooms.

But given this, it's a stones throw from the Naschmarkt, Karlsplatz and only a short walk to the Museums Quartier.

The rooms are large and well appointed. The only problem we had was that donnas are made for the snow but the air conditioning set to 24C. We overcame that by removing the donnas from their covers and just using the covers. But the best part of our 3 day stay was the location. On the doorstep of the Naschmarkt, only a couple of minutes from the underground, and easy walking distance to the old town. If you want to stay in for breakfast the hotel has a good breakfast, even extending to gluten free option.

The hotel is well located right next door to the Naschmarkt, which has loads of restaurants and food stalls, and a short walk away from the Museum Quarter. Most of the main sights are within walking distance. The hotel is only a 2 minute walk away from Karlplatz underground station so is easy to reach.

We had an apartment for our three night stay, although had booked a triple room. This was useful for preparing breakfast and packed lunches. The fridge was also very useful for keepind drinks cold. There is a Billa supermarket round the corner opposite the Naschmarkt and a Spar in the opposite direction near the Museum Quarter where you can stock up on supplies. Both are reasonably priced.

The room was a bit tired, but clean and well presented. The sofa bed was not very comfortable, but we managed with it. The room was cleaned and tidied every day. It also had air conditioning.

Internet access was a bit slow and the PC in the lobby was out of order more than it worked while we were there.

We didn't eat at all in the hotel so I can't comment on the food.

Overall good value for money.

We stayed here just recently for 3 nights and loved it. We were in the same building as the reception and on the 3rd floor. Our room was huge and clean and our bed was very comfortable. The location was awesome, a skip away from the night market and only a 10-15min walk to the centre of town. I have to say that both girls we spoke to on reception were fantastic and the most helpful staff we have come across on our entire trip. We'd gone to tourist information in town first thing in the morning but the 2 people we spoke to there were terrible, a kind of 'what do you want, you can go now' attitude. Thankfully the girls on reception were far more helpful so thanks big time! :-)

The best located hotel we could find in this price category. Close to the museum quarter and metro @Karlsplatz. The hotel has all the basic needs. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel, because there's plenty of nice restaurants nearby.

We had great time in this hotel. The hotel is right in the middle of major attractions. Also, they upgraded us to a bigger room with three beds without charge. This helped us as we were traveling with our teenage son. Very nice people.
