“Great value and ideal location for museum visitors”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012 via mobile

You could see the dome of the Kunsthistorisches Museum from my room, and the Karlsplatz Underground station is about 100 yards away. The front desk staff was unfailingly cheerful and helpful. My room was unusually large, although construction at the neighboring Technical University began promptly at 7 a.m. i recommend adding the breakfast plan to your reservation. It's a very generous hot and cold buffet and well worth the modest surcharge.

We spent four nights in Mercure Secession in November 2012. The location was fantastic; walking distance to the museums, Vienna Philharmonic, Naschmarkt, and many other sights and restaurants. The staff were very nice and helpful. The room we had was also very roomy and nice. If we return to Vienna, we would stay here again.

As others have mentioned, this hotel is close to the Museum Quartier, the Art History Museum, the Natural History Museum, and Opernplatz. Our room was comfortable. The shower left something to be desired, but this has been true of several other European hotels. I guess European hotels just don't understand showers yet. I suggest non-slip shower slippers. Nonetheless, we would return.

I think this hotel is very well situated. It's only 3 minutes walking distance from the nearest underground station and only 15-20 minutes from Saint Stephan's Cathedral - it's depend from your walking ability :)
Museum quartier is only 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
A room was big and clean. The breakfast was good. However D'Arbo jams aren't so delicious as jams from Essex in Mercure Bankside, London.

We liked staying at this small hotel, just next to the Succession Building, and very close to Kartner Platz. We didn't realize just how close until after a couple of attempts to find the station and then, to find the hotel. Perhaps some written instructions could be provided by the hotel for the guests, as we weren't able to follow the oral instructions very well. The hotel and it's location was quiet to the point that we could open the window at night & still sleep. (Australians aren't used to sleeping in heated bedrooms!) We had a very comfortable bedroom, with a sizeable bathroom, & separated wardrobe.
Reception staff were always friendly and willing to help. We found excellent small cafes & restaurants within very close proximity.

The room was very small, hardly any space to walk even to the bathroom. The bathtub had half a swinging door which did not have rubber below preventing the water from leaking out so the floor was completely wet by the time you finished showering. The hair dryer didnt work. No Qtips in the room, no slippers, no robe, no lotion, no toothpaste or toothbrush. When I asked for these things, all I received was lotion and was informed that for the slippers "its not possible"!
When we were about to check out at 12 noon, I felt sick in my stomach and need to use the bathroom, but the receptionist said if you stay longer, I will charge you! You have 5 minutes to vacate the room! even though the cleaners were still quite far from our room. I have never seen such horrible staff.
Locationwise, it was very close to the food market (nasche markt) and to the national opera house but not close the center of Vienna or the historical locations.
But all in all it was definitely not worth the $275 per night that we paid. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
