Owner description: The Cultural World Heritage Site of Schönbrunn Palace is Austria's most frequently visited tourist attraction. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna's population.

“How the "enlightened" despots lived”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

Definitely worth a visit! We bought a 'Classic Pass' which allowed us into the apartments (we paid a little extra for a guided tour, though our ticket would have given us a free audio tour), the park, the mazes and the Privy Garden. All quite elaborate, rococo and luxurious. Not a cheap day by any means, but an illuminating look into how the .0001% lived back in the day. Wish we could take a tour of the servants hallways BEHIND all the glitz, but maybe someday . . .

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

Easy to get to via metro. Chose the grand tour which included 40 state rooms. Getting tickets was long and arduous. The automatic machines were out of order and there was only one ticket seller to start with so the queue was lengthy. Ask the information desk what ticket is suitable before you decide to buy. Decided not to use the audio tapes though wonder if we should have. There was a lot of written information in each room though. As we have visited a few beautiful palaces elsewhere I was slightly disappointed with the lack of grandeur here. I expected far more from this visit. If this is your 1st palace then there won't be any disappointment. Saying that it is worth a visit. The garden will be lovely in a different season. We were lucky to have a warm sunny spring day. The orangery is worth a visit for the view and a coffee and chill out.

“WOW, the Hapsburgs knew how to live!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Like much of Vienna, it is larger than life. Loved visiting this Baroque gem. It goes on and on yet you do not get bored! The Sisi thing is overdone and kind of stupid but it doesn't detract much from the Palace experience, go!

“Grand European Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

A bit outside of town, but that was part of why the Habsburgs built it. Huge palace (did not take the tour) and massive grounds. Even in the off season it was full of visitors and I can only assume it would be even more impressive in the warmer months with the gardens in full bloom.
