“Average business hotel in the city center of Vienna”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The hotel is located beside a nice park, the metro station and within 5 minutes walking distance you are in the city center of Vienna. Everything in the hotel is typical for a good business hotel, including the fact that it is not possible to open a window (which I really hate). The staff is friendly - at the latest when they realize that you are a platin member.

The price for the rooms is really ok but everything else (breakfast, room service, etc.) is unbelievable expensive.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor room - the view is really great!

Dear Marlies M,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

For security reasons, the windows in our rooms come with a lock and can only be tilted by our guests. Guests wishing to have the window opened fully, can do so by calling the Front Desk.

For guests wishing to include our wonderful breakfast in their room rate, we do offer vrey competitive "Advance Saver with Breakfast" packages. Perhaps you would like to consider this option for future stays.

Thank you again for staying with us, hope to see you back soon.

Best regards,

Thomas Legner

We have just spent five nights at what must be one of Intercontinental's best hotels in every respect. It is hard for Intercontinental to exceed their usual high standard, but here in Vienna they have definitely done that. In spite of the rather unattractive outside appearance, the interior, both in the public areas, the club lounge and the bedrooms, are really well maintained and comfortable. We stayed in a delightful double aspect junior suite with good views over the city and a large bathroom with a large window; so nice to have daylight in the bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was extremely clean with plenty of storage for clothes and luggage. The club lounge was excellent, serving soup and salads at lunchtime in addition to the usual breakfast and cocktail drinks and nibbles. There was a different selection of tasty snacks every day, which were replenished as needed. The reception and club lounge staff are both very efficient and welcoming and do a great job; the concierge service is exceptional which certainly ensured we made the most of our stay in Vienna. We highly recommend.

Stayed here for four nights - mixture of business and pleasure. Very high standard from staff who all spoke first class English. We had a corner room up on the 8th floor giving views over the south of the city. Definitely seeking out a higher floor room if possible (although I think the standard and thus cost increase with height!). The bar has a range of 150 whiskeys so if you like your bourbon or scotch, that is a definite plus.

Location is a plesant and easy 15 mins walk from the Innerestadt centre right next to the StadtPark so really convenient. The only thing I can fault the hotel for is it looks awful from the outside especially compared to the general stadard of architecture in the city. Don't let this put you off though!

We spent three nights in the Vienna Intercontinental this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Check in was fast and efficient and we were given an upgrade to a suite based on my Ambassador status. The room was a corner room which allowed for a fabulous view. There was a sitting area, a work area and a very comfortable king size bed. Upon calling housekeeping to request hypoallergenic bedding, our beds were changed within 10 minutes- very fast!

The location was great- walking distance to many of the sites within Vienna, and on the UBahn line directly to Schoenbrunn - the most popular tourist attraction in Vienna.

We spent two evenings in the lobby bar/lounge. The food was great (Wiener Schnitzel, Gulaschsuppe) and a great drink selection. We asked the concierge for some recommendations for dinner and specified that we wanted a good local experience. He came back immediately with two great recommendations and made reservations for us at one of the restaurants. He also made recommendations for places to go the following day for some unique Viennese pastries. Overall great service and everyone seemed eager to help us.

Stayed here over my birthday last week... could not have picked a better place. Have stayed at Hotel Sacher before and liked it too, but the staff at the Intercontinental were much warmer and friendlier then any place I have stayed in many years.

We booked room through Plat AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts Program and were able to get a "Club" room at an excellent rate. Even though the room was not on the 12th floor, we had full access to the Club and all of the associated amenities and received an automatic upgrade at check-in, along with a bottle of champagne, etc., waiting in the room. Room itself was spacious and beautiful--on a corner with large windows on two sides--with sofa, chairs, etc.

Staff could not have been more wonderful. I do not remember telling anyone about my birthday, but when we arrived back to our room after a day of sightseeing, there was another bottle of champagne, a lovely card/note and a sachertorte waiting for us. We also visited the clubroom several times a day and the staff there was so unbelievably friendly and helpful. There were some cranky/relatively misbehaved guests on and off and the staff were extremely gracious with them also.

The food in the Mediterreneo restaurant was really good, also, with very friendly and accommodating staff...

We will definitely stay here again when we visit Vienna. I had never stayed at an Intercontinental before and will certainly consider their properties in other cities, if they are anything like what we experienced here.

Room Tip: If you have a platinum or centurion Amex, be sure to book through the FHR program.

5 mins walk to almost everywhere in the main area of Vienna. Fantastic Decor. The bathrooms were so small not very good for Intercon standards. Almost all staff were friendly - exceptional Concierge Staff! Would really have to be persuaded to stay here again
