Stayed here for 3 nights in November 2005 on the basis of some good recommendations on tripadvisor. It was a basic but clean hotel, very centrally located at the end of a quiet street and you are able to walk to most major sites in central Vienna from here - plus only 5 mins walk from U-Bahn stations and the tram that circles the city (worth a trip to admire the grand buildings of Vienna). There were a number of cafes / restaurants within easy walking distance and a variety of cuisine to choose from (Italian, Austrian, Greek and fast food). I stayed in a room on the 5th floor, quiet, sometimes aware of noise from the lift (yes old, but always worked and rarely had to wait) but room (506?? two singles) had an internal door which when shut ensured peace and quiet, separate toilet and bath - only issues were lack of hairdryer (but then never asked for one at reception) and the fact that was a hand held shower over bath. Hotel could do with some updating in terms of decor - there was a small terrace (didn't venture onto this as was November) but as stated you get what you pay for. Helpful staff - good varied contential breakfast - TV in room with variety of channels, supermarket close by - staff helpful - nice NOT to stay in a chain hotel!

We had a large airy room with an immaculate bathroom.
No sign of the mold others report. We were on the
3d floor facing the front of the hotel. As a result
room was noisy when the windows were open. No A/C
in September. Staff was great with good advice on
tours, concerts etc. This saved us many E-dollars.
Location near the Stephansdom on one side, Schwedenplatz and the Ring on the other. Don't miss
Zanoni & Zanoni ice cream nearby!!!! Breakfast was
good. Yes, the old elevator creaks as do the floors
but the price was right. Would definitely stay here
again.

We stayed at the Hotel Kartnerhof on September 8 for 5 nights. We had never been to Vienna before and found that this hotel allowed us to explore from a wonderfully convenient and central location. The staff went above and beyond to assist us and make recommendations.

Our room was quite large (can't remember the exact room number - I think #422) with a huge bathroom. Quite nice & large walk-in shower. It was spotless.

Breakfast was very good as well.

We fell in love with Vienna and would certainly stay at the Hotel Kartnerhof if we are fortunate enough to return some day!

My wife and I had carefully researched Vienna hotels prior to our recent three night visit there, and had concluded the combination of location and positive reviews indicated the Kartnerhof was the place to stay for us. Our stay there left something to be desired. While our room was clean and fairly large for a European hotel, the furniture was old and the entire hotel had a very tired and worn look.
The breakfast was just ok.The charming elevator failed to operate correctly twice once leaving me to walk down the four long flights of steps.
There was one desk attendent during the day who was helpful but the rest gave the very distinct can't be bothered attitude.
I certainly would look for another place to stay when I visit Vienna again.
