At first, we would like to visit other more famous cafe but it's crowded. Then we came here, the price is around 4.9eu each. A bit expensive but still acceptable!!

“lovely place, excellent cakes but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Lovely baroque ambience, comfortable, good service, excellent range of cakes. However !, the waiters should NOT ask customers for a tip, especially not in front of other customers. Very low class and demeaning for the waiter, and embarrassing for the customer. Asking loudly for the tip is the best way NOT to get one, even if the service is great. Perhaps the owner should really just pay his waiters better, rather than have them doing this sort of embarrassing stuff, which is not the sort of behavior you expect from a top class café.

“decent, but could use better service...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

The cafe is a pleasant enough place to make a stop for some pastries and a light lunch in between a museum walk. It also seemed popular enough.
However, caution should be exercised when ordering, because the serving personnel is prone to "interpret" orders liberally, for example bringing a large soup instead of a small one, despite the explicit order of a small one. The waiter was keen on having heard 'normal', which was downright absurd. Only when I requested a complaints and/or guest book in order to write a caution for future visitors, I was offered a refund of the price of the soup (which in fact was not my intention).

In short: decent place, but be careful what you order, because it might very well not be what you get.

“The best cakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

We decided to visit Hofburg cafe as we had a discount for 60p off apple struddel and coffee with the Vienna Card. It took us a while to find it as Vienna city center is huge! We went on the 2nd of January in the afternoon and we were quickly seated. The appel struddel with vanilla sauce is the best I have ever had,my partner chose the black forrest gateau and made the same comment! We also ate a beef soup which was light, yet full of flavour. The interior is grand and the seats very comfortable. It seems like a place where tourists and locals go. It was a bit pricey, like most food places in Vienna, but the food was excellent and the service impeccable.

“Great hot chocolate & pastries”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stopped for a quick treat while waiting for a tour of the Sisi rooms at the Kaiserappartments at the Hofburg Palace. Maybe it was the time of day, maybe it was the extra whipped cream, who knows? We all had a treat of a pastry to go with our drinks. So good we went back again a few days later. Not quite as good the second time around, but still wonderful hot chocolate
