“Just what we needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Clean and comfortable and close to tram stops. About 15 minutes from the city centre on the trams, but just what we needed. We didn't choose to take breakfast as we wanted to be flexible, so bought 'continental' style breakfast items from the ALDI supermarket next door. Ideal also for the odd bottle of wine to have in our room at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when we needed to print off our boarding passes for the return journey. Free wi-fi in the room and also 2 computers with free use in the lobby. Perhaps another time, and we would choose this hotel again, we would take a small kettle or travel water heater to make a cuppa in the room. Tram system is so easy to use. We bought a weekly ticket online before we went for just under 15 euros per head and it was brilliant (instead of the Vienna card which does give you a small discount on entry to some places, but it does cost more and only lasts for 3 days). Took us anywhere we needed. Weekly ticket lasts from midnight Sun/monday until 9am the following Monday.

Room Tip: We were given a room at the back of the hotel on the first floor and it was quiet, but we understand...

The Hotel Senator is a very nice, modern looking hotel located on the Hernalser Hauptstrasse just outside the downtown circle road of Vienna. The rooms are nicely decorated and have very good beds en well equipped bathroom. Everything is clean and well maintained. Very friendly staff. Very good and extensive breakfast. The price/ quality ratio is very good for a Vienna hotel. They offer free WiFi everywhere and they have 2 Apple computers in the lobby with free printing. The hotel has very good connections with public transportation: when arriving at the airport, take the S7 suburban train (4,20 euro), then at Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse take the subway U3 (direction Ottakring) to Westbahnhof station and change to U6 (direction Floridsdorf) and get off on Alser Strasse station. Take the street railroad 43 to Hernalser Hauptstrasse and get off on Rosensteingasse. The hotel is across the street about 50 meters further down. A Lidl supermarket is next door.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with garden view. They are at the backside of the hotel so you do not have problems w...

The hotel is excellently located (good ten minutes with the tram to Schottenplatz). Modern well-equipped very clean 3 star hotel, the rooms on the site to the street are a bit noisy (if window open) but sound proofing is perfect. Rooms on the higher floors are more recommendable. The house offer a good breakfast, garage parking (16EUR/day) for the guests, very kind and helpful staff. Some good places to eat near to the hotel. I can warmly recommend this hotel to all Vienna visitors - alone, or with families.

Pros:
- Spacious, fresh, modern rooms. No single detail I could complain about. I would compare the room quality to 4* rooms in US and 5* in Europe.
- Very clean
- Good-looking reception
- Convenient location (tram 43 takes you to and from city center in ~10min, cruises every few minutes)
- Few very good places to eat in walking distance
- Underground garage parking(16EUR/day)

Cons:
- End of April when I visited the hotel was quite warm (~20). Hotel air conditioner(and ventilation) system works only for heating. It means that the only way you can get fresh and not warm air is opening windows. And right under your windows you have 6 car lanes and 2 tram lanes so it is quite noisy there. And with closed windows over night the air will be VERY unpleasant at morning.

We spent 4 nights here in an attic room which was very nice. When the windows are open you can hear the cars from the street but this did not bother us. Room was clean and the staff friendly. The hotel is located about 20min by tram from the city center. We would definitely return.

We had a lovely stay here, it was located slightly out of the city but transport was within easy reach. The staff were friendly and the rooms nice. The breakfast was ample and a great start to the day.
Overall a perfectly acceptable 3 star hotel.
