“Getting better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

The Esterhazykeller is a Viennese Institution and it seems that the Beislfood got better and the 2 charming ladies provide excellent service with charm and wit; definitely need a reservation if one wants to seat on a bench

“Heuriger in the city's heart”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

The Esterhazy Keller is is a "Heuriger local" in the city center. Food is Austrian countryside, beer and wines are local. Service for local food (roast pork, tafelspitz and bratwurst) is fast and efficient. For others you have to go to the food stand by the kitchen and buy it there. The atmosphere is good. Helps to speak the languige.

“Special place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

You will feel this place has some history when you enter the -2 floor dungeon.
Apparently this is a favorite place for local people, more a pub than restaurant (but still the schnitzel was perfect). Learn some german and practice wiener akzent before entering.

Simple restaurant with a great regional food and excellent prices. Besides a great wine produced by his own family. Mandatory visit.

“Classic-feeling Austrian Keller (basement/dungeon)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

A friend and I visited Esterhazy today to grab a few drinks. I had passed by many times before and heard it's quite famous.

I absolutely love the classic feeling of the place, with its underground, cellar nature. It gives you an old-world feeling for the city. We explored the entire restaurant, even the rooms that were not being served, just to see how far back they went. It's pretty neat!

We came back the other direction toward the food and bar, and an austrian server behind the bar shouted at us in german to go back to our seat and order drinks from there. My friend and I are both quite used to the blunt nature of some Austrians, so we laughed it off and took a seat in one of the rooms that was open for service.

I got white (weiss) sturm, a autumn specialty that is cloudy new wine (sweet). It was quite good compared to other sturm I have tried. My friend simply got a beer. The service wasn't amazing, but not absolutely terrible either.

The food at the counter looked like a typical Austrian heurigen (wine-tavern). It's where you pick out what you want from the food behind the glass, and they heat it up for you. It's not fancy, but I don't think it's meant to be!

I'm giving this place a good rating, because it's a classic Austrian experience. And the sturm was great.
