“Can't believe this property has so many positive reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Let me start by saying that we really didn't want to stay here once we saw it but neither Appartments in der Josefstadt nor Expedia would refund our stay, despite being unable to give us the room (in terms of #of beds) that we reseved. The aparment complex is not well maintained. A dirty lobby with peeling paint welcomes you. The apartment we had was relatively roomy with a newer kitchen but not very clean. The SILVERFISH INFESTATION in the bathroom was particulary off-putting.
We did not meet any tourists in the building although all the units were full. No doubt there are some as many people have offered reviews. We did meet several refugee claimants (one of whom was also annoyed with his lack of reserved room) and a longer-term resident.
The internet connection was not working for the first few days of our stay and although the manager assured us it was our problem, the receptionist had to admit that she had been unable to connect for several days also, when we asked her to help us book something. She was very pleasant.
Our unit faced Kochgasse and was very noisy, even at night. It was warm while we were there and we left the windows open. Consequently we could hear the taxi drivers just outside chatting and listening to music half the night, along with the bus and traffic noise. A fan would have been nice to circulate the warm air.
Many of the reviews comment on the good location, especially with proximity to transit but the transit system in Vienna is excellent, I think you would have a hard time finding something that was NOT convenient to transit.
In the end we were very unhappy with our $100 phone bill which consisted of THREE LOCAL calls and checked out early, despite being unable to recoup our unused nights.

Room Tip: Likely noisy whether you face Alserstrasse or Kochgasse, less of an issue in the winter.

Stayed over 2011/12 Christmas/New Year's holidays. Excellent location, with tram/bus stops, several shops, including supermarkets, and bakeries nearby, and three u-bahn stops are within walking distance too. Not luxurious, but clean and comfortable. The kitchenette was very useful for days we didn't feel like eating out and for early-morning breakfasts. Staff was very responsive and helpful at all times, even accommodated our alternative check-in/check-out times, which was VERY helpful. Not once we felt limited by the 9-noon reception hours.

There's WiFi, but it was very unstable and accessible only from the kitchenette. Not a major inconvenience, especially since there's an excellent wired connection, but something to consider, especially if you're on a business trip or "online" all the time.

Will definitely stay here again!

Great staff, super flexible and uber accommodating. We arrived late, changed the dates - all handled in the most pleasant manner. Over New Years, some small bottles of bubbly were dropped off to help us celebrate, such a lovely thought. Location was fabulous, very convenient, with a great tram service.

We stayed there a few nights. It's rather basic but clean, okay to stay if you don't need anything fancy.

The reception is only opened 9am to noon. We were lucky meeting there a German speaking guy who got us in and got the keys for us. The building is rather ugly, so is the entrance area. The entrance is actually around the corner in Kochgasse.
We didn't use the kitchen but it might be handy sometime. Look well equipped. Loved the Nespresso coffee machine. You get a few capsules for free, then you can buy them for 50 cents each which is good price (I pay 40 cents in the Nespresso shop).

Probably not the good idea to keep the windows opened during the night. I woke up a couple of times during night since it was suprisingly noisy for a side street.

Location is very good. Easy walk to two underground station. Tram stops are at the door step. Taxi stand in front of the main door was very useful. Always some cabs waiting there. Many options to dine or shop around. Easy walking distance to Vienna Rathhaus (townhall) where the big Christmas market take places every year from mid November.

Could highly recommend if you just need a basic, clean place to stay in a central Vienna.

We stayed there for a few nights - it was an 'ok' place to stay, very convenient, but there is a room for improvement.

Arrived late evening, but were not informed by the staff about the entry code (despite informing them of our late arrival), took some time to figure out where to get it from as we first went to the reception (which was closed).

We had the small studio (tiny, in fact...) - it was fine, with a little kitchen area which was very useful during our stay. The room was nice but not too clean. No washing machine inside.

Location - very close to a couple of tram lines, easy to get around. Easy to walk around, too.

Lobby/reception - well, it is an apartment block, not very fancy, and the entrance area had a very strong cigarette smell during the time we stayed there.

Food & shopping - many good options around, but remember that Vienna is almost dead on Sundays.

Will recommend this place if you are looking for something very basic with kitchen facilities.

Loved Vienna, beautiful city with an excellent public transport system!

We stayed at the Josefstadt Appartements for 3 nights in mid December 2009.
Apartment was clean and location is excellent with tram stop right outside front and shops to purchase food etc. Plenty of good (and fair priced) local restraunts nearby.
We often walked into the city centre (about 20 mins).
Closest Christmas markets were in university 5 mins walk down road market was not bad but not as good as other towns. Other main market was at the Rathausplatz. Christmas lights in the city were wonderful.
Points to note;
If you intend to arrive outside of regular business hours ensure you obtain a passcode for the front security door from where you can get a ket to your apartment. Lift was not working when we stayed there which did not bother us but might others. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which consists of entry with kitchen, separate bathroom, dining room with sofa bed and separate bedroom with queen bed.
Apartment is an excellent alternative to a hotel especially with family.

An apartment is defnitely the best option in Vienna.

These are located just outside of the main city centre, but still really easy to get around everywhere and it's a short walk to U-bahn stations. The best thing is that you experience a bit of the local Vienna and not the heavy tourist areas. Great selection of local restaurants behind the apartments.

Had a Deluxe apartment - so had an extra room. It was quite spacious and the decor modern and clean. Kitchenette was great - with full cutlery, china and even salt and pepper. Everything looked as though it was newish. Had all the home comforts of tv/ radio cd player/ toiletries and complimentary tea and coffee kit. Should note though that it was quite hot when we stayed and there was no air conditioning so we just slept with the windows open (bit of noise as we faced the main road) - but don't know if other apartments have air-con?

Overall was very pleased, and would stay again!
