“Pretty good.. but the breakfast....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We spent 3 nights here.
The room and the bathroom were super clean and quite big. Sat Tv in the room.
There is a restaurant donwnstairs and it could be quite noisy and crowded at dinner time but the room (2nd floor) was well isolated so we didn't hear any noise, except for a rude italian group who spent "fortunately" just the first night running and shouting long stairs and corridors.
Breakfast was good enough when we got everything, unfortunately sometimes we found missing things, like milk, bread or tea cups.
Most of the staff don't speak good English but it's enough to be understood

We stayed here for a single night while traveling back from Vorarlberg to Scotland.

First the good: It is situated very conveniently on a main bus route; the wifi is free and fast; the rooms are good; the front of house staffed that checked us in was very pleasant and helpful.

The bad: The food in the restaurant is adequate; the breakfast is fairly terrible, undrinkable coffee, tables not cleared and very unhelpful staff.

It might seem that the good points outweigh the bad, but I found our breakfast and interactions with the staff in the morning tainted our stay quite strongly.

We only stayed 1 night in Mid-December. The hotel itself seems very small from the outside but its actually quite big. It seems they have renovated a bigger part of it - i think all the rooms from 110-139 are the renovated ones. We had an amazing bathroom, the room had a radio that could also be listened to from the bathroom - which was nice condsidering that there was a huge shower and a low light to turn on to relax while your in the shower. The view was amazing - Mountains and Snow - and it was just a hop away from Liechtenstein. We also ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant - which i have to say was not excellent but very good for the price. Overall a very nice hotel to stay at.

Room Tip: Rooms 134-139 seem to be one of the renovated ones - really nice and quiet on that side of the hotel...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Just returned from the Gasthof Loewen hotel. On arrival late evening we were greeted with a very unfriendly member of staff on the reception. We were a party of 6 family members using 3 rooms. The member of staff made us feel as if we were interrupting her. She gave me the keys to the rooms and told me take the lift, that was it, no other information what so ever. Anyway found the rooms, no problem. Rooms where large and very clean, as was the bathroom.

Once we were settled in we decided to go down stairs for a drink, we didn't know where we could sit to have a drink because most of the front rooms are for smoking and none of us smoked. The waitress asked us to sit in the breakfast room, we were the only people in there and this felt a little strange, as other guests came and went into the main seating area. After a good nights rest we went for breakfast (there is a church in front of the hotel which has a very loud bell that goes off at 7 every morning, my sister counted 200 dongs, (not good when your on holiday) it also goes off throughout the night but this very softly.

(Please note that this is a smoking hotel and it smells of smoke every where down stairs, restaurant, bar and hallways). There is a large sitting room just inside the front door, a small room opposite the bar and a large conservatory all for smoking. We couldn't find a sitting room for non smoking clients.

There isn't mush on offer for breakfast, bread/rolls, jam, cereal, tinned fruit or dried fruit or boiled eggs, in the other room there was meat or cheese. Again we felt that some of the staff were very abrupt. My dad informed the waitress that there was no milk left for the cereal and she snatch the bottle from him without saying anything and then returned it (filled) to where it was supposed to be, rather than giving it to him as he had sat down whilst waiting. Also for your information dogs are allowed in the restaurant.

They also have a bowling alley with 4 lanes in the basement. We requested to use this but it seems to be a problem at first, then we were told we could play and it would cost 9 euros for a game for 1 hour. We said this was ok and went down stairs to play, the room was in darkness, I returned to the bar and to ask about the lights and I was told very rudely "just wait, I didn't know you were going down now". We had great fun playing bowls and a good night was had by all.

Overall the rooms and bathrooms were very good, the maids were lovely, always polite and chatty. The breakfast menu could do with more choice. And front of house staff need to be more curious to paying guests.

Booked the Loewen because it was able to accommodate three adults in one room within a good travel distance to Liechtenstein and Lake Constance.

A bit difficult to find but staff were friendly, the rates were reasonable, free parking and wifi available. Breakfast was basic but good.

Our room was in the new part of the guesthouse which is advisable to stay in, much higher standard by first impressions, though did not see the older rooms.

Downsides, it's a bit out of the way from Feldkirch centre, initial impressions on arrival can be mixed, booking online is tricky but ringing was easy. Lights in room were either all on or all off, and they were very bright, not the nicest system if you just want a nice dim reading light.

Overall, good value, nice for a one night stay, would recommend if you want to travel the area but avoid the large tariffs that are in Leichenstein, Bregenz, Bad Regaz, and pretty much all of Switzerland.

Yes i will go back to this hotel. They treat me so good!! I have no complain. Very friendly and helpful staff. When i told them that my mother was recovered in hospital, that's why i was in Feldkirch, they let me stay even though i didn't know my check out date. I know it was difficult for them because they were completely booked but for me and my difficult situation they did everything to help me. My room was quiet, clean and very cosy. Their restaurant wa excellent! Good breakfast! The bus station was outside the hotel which was very convenient. Iam very pleased with my stay!

All "exklusiv"-rooms are in the new building, modern and spacious and all smoke free (officially - as there is no penalty for smoking I suppose some guests just don't care).

Beds are huge (2 single beds ca. 1m width) and the bathrooms comes with a shower only - they should use more vinegar to remove the limescale however basically all clean! Wifi is free but speed goes down to "very slow" when more than 2 people are connected... Windows in the new wing are absolutely sound proof - guaranteed good night sleep!

Breakfast is included in ALL rates (even those on hotels.com which doesn't promote it) and quite good even nothing outstanding.

I had dinner in their restaurant which seems to be quite popular for locals: the Onion-Steak (Zwiebelrostbraten) was more mediocre - honestly nothing to be repeated - on a reasonable price level compared to nearby Switzerland (where this would cost twice).

The "wellness" area is in the cellar and quite nice (Finnish Sauna, Steamroom, relaxation room).

They have 3 (three!!) smoking rooms in this property what I found a bit too much care on smokers: the teracce is used as a place where you can eat and smoke (surrounded by glas), they have a smoking lounge next to the entrance for the younger smokers (no idea when they are allowed to smoke in Austria but who cares?) plus a "smoking cabin" for the smokers who were used to drink their beer at the bar (which should stay smokefree in theory) - in all smoker areas the doors are wide open and there is no ventilation at all - the smoke get distributed to the whole hotel.

Otherwise a great deal (single 45 EUR with BF) - above average is only for the "exklusiv" rooms!!
