“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

We have just spent a week at hotel gamshof. It is the perfect base for a skiing holiday in kitz. It was recommended by our son who is a ski instructor with rote teufel. They made us feel very welcome and also welcomed our son who had breakfast with us every day. Gesine, Petra and Karen were very helpful and welcomed me with a glass of wine every evening as I returned from the mountains.
It is well placed in a quiet street but 2 min walk to the old centre and 5 mins to base of gondola where there are lockers for ski gear. There are lovely shops and bakeries and wine bars on the walk home so we appreciated not being under the gondola. You can't miss the red building if you get lost in the maze of streets.
The rooms are comfortable and quiet with clean bathrooms and serviced daily. Breakfast is classical continental but delicious with great breads and cheese and meats. The standout is the family atmosphere of a small hotel and cosy lounge area and personable service from bar all at a very affordable price.
The only minor downside would be smoking ( hello gesine) but you have to expect that in Austria.
I will stay there again next year and highly recommend it to anyone wanting friendly affordable clean accomodation in Kitzbuhel.

Room Tip: Room 217 is light and spacious and has a nice view of the mountain and church towers.

Stayed for one week at Hotel Gamshof, big plus is the location, not to long from the slopes that you can’t walk on ski boots and very close to the central of town.

The biggest minus of this hotel is the smoking who is allowed in the hotel. The stink easily travels into the rooms and bothered me and my pregnant wife pretty much, it has been a few years since I had a smoking experience at a hotel so it was a big disappointment, especially since it looked as it was mostly the hotel staff that was smoking. Other aspects of the cleanness of the hotel were pretty good.

We were not happy with the room we got at first that was located right next to the reception and bar on the ground floor with no balconies and extremely noise so we got moved to another one much smaller but that didn’t affect the price at all, paid the same price as our friends who had the bigger type of a room on the first floor with balconies.

The staff was though friendly and helpful, breakfast was satisfactory and the sauna was nice.

Prices per room are pretty steep during high season, as expected, but the hotel didn’t live up to it really, not likely that we will return to this hotel when we visit Kitzbuhel again.

Room Tip: Rooms in the staircase aisle are not good, the staircase is tiled so every once in a while you woke...

Well located hotel in the middle of Kitz village. Tiny tiny room and bathroom. Breakfast was pretty basic, and good luck getting them to make a latte or capuccino. the staff were very friendly but this place is still on training wheels. When we asked for information about nearby amenities, eg ATM, laundromat, they couldnt help. no advice re restaurants either. Thank goodness for Tripadvisor recommendations or we would have been stuck! Also smoke from the wood fire that is lit each evening wafts up into your room so you and your clothes stink of smoke in e mornings, like you have had a big night out. They really need to do something about the ventilation.

The Hotel Gamshof in the heart of Kitzbuhel is a real gem. Beginning with our first conversation with Kevin Heiserer, our stay at this charming property was an experience with true hospitality at its best. Kevin and other front desk employees of this lovely boutique hotel did everything they coils to make our stay an unbelievable success. They helped us with train station transfers, restaurant recommendations, sightseeing alternatives and finally early departure logistics. The room, common areas and breakfast room were spotlessly clean and tidy. Breakfast itself was great. And the location of the property couldn't be better...within walking distance of all our needs in the town. We are most appreciative of a great stay.

Room Tip: Any room at this property would be quiet, clean and safe.

Our group of 8 arrived at this typical Austrian hotel after a long hot day on the motorbike and were greeted with friendly, helpful service from the staff and were able to enjoy lovely cool drinks outside in the comfortable sitting area outside the hotel entrance. To my delight we had a spacious room overlooking the green ski slopes with a long balcony accessed by 2 doors and set up with table and chairs,. In addition we had a well-furnished sitting room big enough to entertain our whole group. The room was clean and very comfortable and included a four poster bed. The breakfast (included in the tariff) was excellent with a choice of both hot and cold food. Wifi was free. The hotel did not serve dinner during the summer but the staff recommended an excellent restaurant to us. There was a small lobby/housebar area which we did frequent but if you want to drink top shelf be prepared for the wallet pain. Overall we were very happy.

Crystal-run Hotel, (though locals refer to it as a Pension). Staff are cheerful and enthusiastic but not professional hotel management qualified. Hotel is run down, needs a good cleaning or makeover and a lot of small repair jobs. (our window had a damaged hinge and clothes hooks on doors were all loose. Hot water was in short supply unless you were first or lucky. The hotel has very little private space to relax, unwind, read or write and NO amenities or even wifi. Its location is at the wrong end of town and local knowledge needed to find the Hahnenkamm lift, though the skibus is close by. Food and service are at best average, the pack lunch was handy and the tea, coffee and cakes were great if you were back early enough pm. The free-drink is a gimmick, dreadful quality and leads to too much noise. Rooms near the stairwell or on the Ground floor suffer hugely as a result. Best suited to a large group of youngsters taking over the whole place - if the staff has the stamina!!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms near the stairwell or on the Ground floor are exposed to the racket from the bar.

After an 8 year gap it was great to ski again and The Hotel Hofer & the friendly Crystal staff certainly made the experience memorable.
The food was plentiful and tasty. The choice of a cooked breakfast, toast, rolls, ham, cheese, yoghurt & cereal eating as much or as little as you want will set you up for the day. Although half board we were offered a packed lunch which we took on a few occasions. After a day on the slopes it was back to the hotel for afternoon tea & a generous slice of cake & cookies. The free bar opened soon after and we all enjoyed the beer & wine. The 3 course evening meal was exceptional and of a high standard.
On our 1st morning we took a taxi costing only 8 euros to the Intersport Rent, next to the gondola where we hired a heated locker for our skis & boots which was a great help. We walked every day to & from the gondola which took about 12 minutes it was a very easy walk which was a bit of a warm up or cool down for our aching muscles
The resort was full of beautiful old buildings with very fashionable shops. Our holiday was the last week of the season so we found some of the shops and bars closed but there was still enough for us to do.
The skiing was made all the better for the late dump of snow at the beginning of the week and we had some glorious days taking every opportunity to ski as many runs as we could.
We will most definitely return
