“Just what I expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

We were greeted upon arrival by the front desk receptionist, Lisa, with a friendly hello and an explanation that our room was not ready yet, but we could leave our bags and explore the town. We did just that and when we returned our room was ready and our bags were already in it. Our room was beautiful, almost entirely paneled in carved cedar that smelled wonderful. The hallways and stairwell were decorated with paintings and carvings as well.
The waitstaff were pleasant and attentive, especially Roland, and the buffet breakfast was always delicious. We stayed with half-board, where breakfast and dinner are provided by the hotel and the dinners left much to be desired. I would have preferred traditional Tyrolian food.
The room was very clean and the hotel's location can't be beat.

The hotel is staffed by the most friendly and helpful staff. The place has its own character, is very clean and well maintained. The centrally located so is easy to get everywhere in this beautiful Austrian city.

We stayed here for a week, early January. After skiing 3 years is Mayrholfen we decided for a change and stayed here. It is very easy to get to from Munich via train and the hotel is a couple of minutes walking distance from the train station - which is exactly where the main ski lift is. The town itself is small and quaint but with all necessities - when open!
They were a bit flustered on arrival and there was a mix up with our room - they had put us in 2 separate rooms. This was sorted easily however price was renegotiated and we were severely stung at the end of our stay when we were advised that we were paying PER PERSON per room. The staff weren't forth coming with info so we had to ask basic questions. But they were friendly enough. The food was o.k/ basic (we were half board). The waiter staff were often flustered and confused and at times could be taken as being rude. The atmosphere at meal times was strained and not enjoyable which Is not great at the end of a day skiing.
Our room was very large and clean. Bring your own toiletries as they are not provided e.g. shampoo. Very dark lighting, good tv with good stations and gorgeous outlook over ski slopes.
The location is awesome. Overall, fine, but we wouldn't stay here again. Expensive (as to be expected in this area) however, you can possibly get more bang for your buck.

Clean, nicely appointed room. Staff was courteous and professional, but not terribly engaging. Excellent location. Quiet atmosphere.... but so quiet I wondered if we were the only guests. No convivial ski lodge feeling at all.

Negatives: Our room never had hot water. The best we could hope for was a lukewarm shower. The room was quite warm and we could not locate controls for the heater. We slept with the window open.

I have been visiting Kitzbuhel for about 20 years, and this is the first time that I have stayed in this hotel. Everyone - from the waiters and desk staff to the owner - was incredibly hospitable and welcoming. I had a single room, but it still had a small sitting area, table, desk, and large wardrobe. It was very comfortable, traditional in wooden decor, the bathroom was recently redone, and I had a balcony that looked at the Kitzbuheler Horn.

They offered an extensive breakfast buffet every morning and the dinner was absolutely wonderful - delicious and varied in choices daily. There was a comfortable lounge area and a small terrace in the front of the hotel to enjoy as well. It was only steps away from the town center, so the location couldn't have been more perfect.

The only little snafu was the broken elevator, but, it was quickly fixed the next day.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel maintains a traditional Tirolean ambiance which I quite like and admire, but the conveniences of modern life, like free wi-fi and a spa area are nice as well. Definitely a nice 4-star hotel in the heart of Kitzbuhel... I would definitely stay here again.

We spent time in Kitzbuhel 40 yrs ago at this hotel. We expected to see great changes but actually it didn't seem that different. Still very traditional in every way, including the friendly welcome and good wholesome food. ( smoked ham and sauerkraut for dinner for example) Very central location and comfortable and quiet.

This is one of those reviews you almost hate to write, because you'd rather not let others know how great of a place this really is. However, the people and the property definitely deserve the praise.

I stayed at the Goldener Greif during Hahnenkamm week and had an excellent stay. I was in a single room on the fourth floor. Some would say small, I think it was cozy and well-designed and well-furnished. It was lacking nothing...even had a balcony looking out to the Kitbuheler Horn.

Given the season, the rates were extremely reasonable for the value received. Not just in my room, but in the rooms (of various configurations) where friends and family stayed. The common areas were geniunely decorated with art of and describing old Kitzbuhel, always appropriate, never cheap or garish.

The people--from the front desk staff and the bartenders up to the owners themselves were always helpful and kind....even to those not staying in the hotel who needed a bit of information. Genuine hospitality. Many of the guests...old AND young...were repeat customers, and spoke highly of the place.

I will definitely go back to Kitbuhel for the Hahnenkamm, and stay at the Goldener Grief, because the Hotel played a large role in making my visit so enjoyable.

Is it cheap? No. Is it a great value? Yes, very much so. If you don't know the difference, then, perhaps it is not your sort of place.
